BARRINGTON, N.H. -- A fire in Barrington destroyed the University of New Hampshire boat house and much of the sailing team's equipment Wednesday night.
Fire crews called to the boat house on Hall Road found the structure fully engulfed. Crews had to pass through a locked gate and an unplowed road to extinguish the blaze with water from a nearby lake.
The cause is still under investigation, and the state fire marshal is due Thursday to assess the scene.
At least 32 sailing boats were destroyed. The sailing team was set to begin their season after spring break.

In other news, the UMass crew team was arrested under suspicion of DUI at the NH/Mass border late last night. Police were puzzled as to why the car was filled with empty gasoline cans and several of the car occupants smelled of burnt wood.
