Going from net spenders to net savers (or vice versa) takes a generation or two. Movement toward the system you suggest will take a lot of incremental baby steps over several administrations (assuming that they could maintain focus over that amount of time). To suggest this as a congressman right now would get them an express ticket back to their district.

But Hell will freeze over before any tax gets eliminated. Adding a new one just means more taxes.

The first thing we need to do is vote out every office holder that doesn't vote to cut spending across the board. And they can start with their own pay and their own benefits.

Then we can talk about swapping out tax systems.

Yes vote out every incumbent every elction until they pass a Constitutional Balanced budget amendment. In it they can address any emergency deficit spending ie; war etc. but would have to have approval of 75% house and senate and STATES. This would resolve that problem. And an Amendment that limits terms of house and senate. That would help force the parties to work together for the greater good than just looking out for themselves. The big question is would the American people put aside their sense of entitlement and NIMBY, their partisan politics and lack of compasion for someone different than themselves and vote an incumbant out?

Get about a million barrels a day from Saudi. We could get that much for 20-30 years (or more) by drilling in ANWR, to say nothing of offhsore. We import more from Canada and Mexico, and currently Nigeria. Venezuela ain't too far behind Saudi. Maybe we should invade Canada?

Iran is too large, Israel is very small; we could off Israel with out making a dent in our inventory. Then we let Pollard out and send him to be with his friends in Israel.

Actually, since we're reducing the inventory anyway, that part isn't a big deal - the bigger the target, the more we get rid of without having to pay to get rid of them.

I think Venezuela is the obvious choice. A dozen of us from this forum armed with ax handles could take Venezuela before sundown tomorrow, and pumping oil in the arctic is expensive.

They have thousands of leases they can drill on tomorrow, if they want to, but why increase supply and risk prices dropping?
