Maybe UM should just install maroon turf. That's sure to increase revenue.
Sac State is good, new Spinturf should be done next month, the grass is already torn out.

Just got a UFL team to rent out the stadium, the California Redwoods will now be playing in Sacramento at Hornet Stadium, however their name will be changed.

President of the university passed a fee increase to put more money into athletics, I don't remember the percentage but it was significant.

All is good in Sacto
UFL? I wouldn't count on that as a long-term source of revenue.

During our coaching search, it was brought up to our committee that only two Big Sky football programs turned a profit last year. It was not brought up as to the size of the profits, nor which two turned a profit. I assumed they were the two Montana schools. I may have been wrong.
I don't know that the problem stems from the football program losing money. According to the Kaimin article, the football program brings in over $4 million. The next highest money makers are the two basketball programs, which COMBINED bring in $750,000. The football program could be making money, but are they making enough to make up for shortfalls from the other athletic programs? Apparently not. :ohno:

A major fund raising will start to happen in the next year to test the waters for moving up and if it's successful then on we go. If it isn't successful then they can fall back on the "we need the fanbase to pony up!" mantra and they will feel even more comfortable about raising prices and donation levels and so forth.

Love the Griz and have never missed a game in WaGriz but I gotta tell ya it is starting to look more attractive to watch them on the tube.
I am getting sick and tired of paying the ticket prices. And now rumors are abound about the U making more changes to the tailgating. Not sure what they are as of yet, but it seems as they are trying to push the alcohol giveaways from bars/restaurants/businesses at tailgates is what they are putting a clamp down on...again.....
Sounds like what happened at Southern, they lost a bit of the fanbase with ticket price increases and BS tailgating rules. I don't think you guys will have the same problems we did, but you can only push fans so far.

Granted, those numbers are for total athletic expenses so I assume 8 million could be coming in from elsewhere. I am just shocked at how low Montana's budget is compared to the CAA schools. Just goes to show how they have been able to do so much with less money.
Those numbers are reported by the school. The expenses are usually pretty accurate for the totals. The breakdown on the expenses by sport are somewhat sketchy as there is no uniform apportionment for facilities costs.

I wonder if anyone in the admin office has thought that maybe the Griz program has jumped the shark?

I mean, this last year we had Monte, that big ass blow up doll rocky or some shit, the mini-Monte, always some random other mascot as well and then the opposing teams costume as well. Then the intro's have been hit and miss....and ticket prices keep going up with no sign of slowing down...food/beverage is constantly upping costs.

Maybe once the Griz came out for the Bobcat game a couple years ago in throwbacks...it was the pinnacle of Griz football and that was that? I am not saying that the team is on a downward spiral like BF, but I am saying that it may be the time for some scaling back of game-day shit. 1, ONE, fucking mascot and that being MONTE. PER-FUCKING-IOD! Maybe keep the tickets the same price or give back a few dollars on next seasons package. Let the Tailgates go...I mean come on, just allowing the GSA to sell beers, let the bars and whatnot give the stuff away or have tickets or tokens or whatever. And while I am on rant mode, ENOUGH with the TSA security at the game. Hell I am sick of getting my dick grabbed by some 45 year old wanna-be cop, and I am really sick of having my wife get her boobs squeezed by some fat bitch every time we enter the stadium.

Perhaps you're not intending this, but this would imply that they are DOOMED to move up....they've outgrown FCS? :coffee: :coffee: :coffee:

I didn't mean it that way. The way it sounded in my head was that the Program wouldn't ever top that game day and the team would, and I hope I am way way wrong here, no necessary flounder but ...well I mean it is as big as it is going to ever get. Moving up, down, (and all around) whatever won't hurt/help the team. It is just the biggest show in MT and it will not get any bigger. Doesn't matter if they put the Griz in the PAC, WAC, RMAC, whatever. They will be there and all that but I am not sure that putting more mascots, making pregame longer, trying to pump this up or making this part bigger/longer will enhance the Griz game-day and money making capabilities.

Does that make any sense? I hope it does. Still doesn't sound right.

Sounds like you're saying the budget problems can be traced to one issue - waste - especially on meaningless and unecessary gameday enhancements.

THAT, and the fact that they're cutting their nose off despite their face on the OTHER side by clamping down on the partying and game-day atmosphere OUTSIDE the stadium... :ohno: :ohno:

Well yes, but there are also others. Maybe the U wouldn't have so many damn problems if they weren't building a new building every year. I know, the more the U has to offer the more money they can bring in....but with tuition going up each and every year and the rest of the shit that never stops going up in price one would think that taking just one or two years off wouldn't kill the U.

Also, general question for all out there as well as UM folks.

What about University presidents/higher ups getting free room and board/cars/etc...while they are with the U? They make enough to pay their own way and not free load off the University's tit, right?

It's BS but I imagine if other schools do it to attract a "top notch Pres" then UM is using that to justify it. I have no idea what Sac State or for that matter the CSU system is allowed to do, but I imagine there is a similar thing going on. I guess 200k+/year just isn't enough to live on these days. :ohno:

Sorry AZ but jumping the shark means that the quality of their production and the different things that go into it have dried up and they are now going with gimmicks for fan entertainment.

Just do the quality simple work and the football be the focus is good advice from what I've seen.

BTW, if I never see the term "jump the shark" again it will be too soon, but Grizza used it exactly correctly in this instance.

Oh, I knew exactly what he was implying....I think it's just that perhaps since they can't WOW fans with the quality of the opponent, they feel the need to "jump the shark" (that was for you, Ursus) instead. No, but we are getting a $1.2M Fieldturf surface out of it.

Athletics fee increase is $22.50/semester or 29,000x2x22.50=$1.3M and it adjusts for inflation.

Isn't the Griz already IN the FCS? SO they would be running where, exactly? And why would they run from App. St.? Been fairly successful against them, right?
