I'm not sure if it's UM who's going WAC.

JFC! This should be in the trash can or rumor thread ASAP. Leave it up to a Weber fan to screw it up.

1. Montana can't afford to add any other athletic programs to meet the minimum of 16 requirement, they currently only sponsor 14.

2. Montana is good in football... And that's about it.

3. There is absolutely no media market in Montana.

4. With the exception of maybe one other school, travel by air is required.

5. Montana would have to share football revenues with other sports as they are not self sustaining and their budgets would need to be adjusted.

6. Montana has a small man syndrome, they are great, in football, at the FCS level, but think they'll be good at the FBS level.

7. If UM thinks they'd be so good at the FBS level they should stop being puzzies and shedule an FBS game or two each year! At this point, it isnt about the money, it's about proving you belong, and Montana hasnt proven isht playing Western State year after year! :nutkick:

i think some of you do not understand that the WAC isnt exactly the SEC. what kind of media market do you think they have in the WAC, not much. Schools like Idaho/LaTech/USU/SanJose aren't getting much coverage in their owns states and don't exactly make the conference any better in fball.

Football is the only thing that matters for moving up. Does anyone really think the WAC cares how UM did in volleyball?

Have you paid attention to Montana hoops the last decade or so? They've made more tournaments (at least on the guys' side) than Sac has, I'll guarantee you that.
Herky wrote:6. Montana has a small man syndrome, they are great, in football, at the FCS level, but think they'll be good at the FBS level.
You make it sound like EVERY Montana fan wants to move up. From what I've seen on eGriz, it's about 50-50, and both sides are very vocal. Many want to stay put.

That said, in the WAC and perhaps the MWC, after a period of mediocrity, they COULD do well. But many correctly as the question, "Why bother?" They can get perfectly good (in fact, one could argue "legitimate") titles right where they are at less cost.

But before you run smack of this kind, Herky, at least make sure you're right. UM has a decent men's hoops program (they can compete with the Big West, which Sac hasn't been able to do on the men's side yet, though that's coming VERY soon) and a few other good programs as well. So they don't have baseball? Neither do many schools that far north.

Man, I hate defending the Griz. But falsehoods like this gotta be nipped in the bud.

Hey weber-boy, why start a couple threads when one would have been one too many? Need attention today? You just post out some stupid shit and expect everyone to take YOUR word on it?

Go back to drinking water and worshiping the temple gods or whatever.

Also, women's basketball:

The women's basketball team is the most successful team in the Big Sky Conference. The Lady Griz have won 17 conference titles in 25 years, most recently in 2008, and have competed in the NCAA Women's tournament 17 times. The Lady Griz have been coached since 1978 by Robin Selvig (Montana, 1974), who has an overall record of 645-188 (.774 winning percentage) as head coach of the Lady Griz. Selvig earned his 600th win in just 772 games—sixth fastest of any NCAA coach (men or women). The Lady Griz are regularly in the top 30 nationally in attendance for NCAA women's basketball

This post doesn’t mean much if you think Montana will be anything better than a cellar dweller for the first few years in FBS. Also anyone thinking the MWC will fill their expansion with an FCS program needs to wake up. The MWC is on the verge of becoming (or at least is being considered) a BCS conference, an addition of an FCS program will only get them laughed out of any such conversation. SH you should know this already as I posted this on SacBuzz just a few weeks ago.

Herkey’s #1 reason is the biggest hurdle UM faces in a move up. UM posters here always harp about not playing FBS teams because they make more on home games playing JC’s at home, while at the same time UM claims to have budget issues even with all that money they rake in while only funding 14 sports. Any decision to move to FBS will be based off of a monetary one.

WW, the MWC has possibly the worst TV contract of ANY FBS football conference. At least for the WAC there is hope for the occasional ESPN televised game on Tuesdays (or whatever day other than Saturday they have to play on to get put on ESPN). IMO the only viable FBS conference any western FCS program would have any possibility of joining is the WAC. For a program looking to move up to FBS (WAC) and being located in a considerable media market doesn’t hurt their chances for it to actually happen. :twocents:

no seriously, sarcastic or not either its a fragmented sentence or part of it doesnt make sense. explain please. or do you just mean if UM wasn't in the big sky weber would have 2 more wins when some crap team joins regarding basketball? in that case it really doesnt matter, UM hasnt hosted since 2000 and wsu has beat UM 6 of last 7 on the hard wood. no dis meant or making fun of griz. just bball is the one sport we are usually always good at.

i didnt know we could be good at football til we hired mac.

I've heard nothing about Montana going to the WAC. Only me wanting them to be in the WAC. I think UC Davis would like to be in the WAC if offered. Isn't there so bs problem about Montana won't go unless you take MSU. Unless the WAC is desperate and they might be sooner or later, they wouldn't like being told who they have to invite or else. My thought is they'll got after UTSA and Texas St. if Boise St. and/or anyone else leaves because they want to be FBS and bridge a gap to La Tech, nice fb area nice stadium for UTSA. Montana could always add tiddly winks and team yoga to get to 16.

The WAC will only add a team that can help improve the conference and produce wins out of conference. I don’t think that U.M. will produce over .500 at the FBS level for the 1-3 years. The WAC is thought of as a weak conference and will not add a FCS team to try and improve the conference strength of schedule. The WAC needs to expand exposure into other areas such as Teases and the south for recruiting. If the Grizz are having money problems how are they going to afford the additional 20 scholarships required at the FBS level? Also because of title 9 Montana would have to add 20 women’s scholarships. I don’t think that they can afforded it. Is the Grizzly fan base going to accept 2-3 loosing seasons? Could Montana sell 15 to 20 thousand tickets a game with a loosing season? If they don’t sell tickets how do you pay for football? Montana thinks that because they beat Idaho a few years back that they would do well in the WAC I don't think so. The Grizz are a good football team at the FCS level but would get beat horribly by Boise, Idaho, Fresno, Hawaii, and Nevada. Utah state and LA Tec are a maybe and UNM and San Jose State are there best chance of a win. The Grizzly’s would stand a good chance of losing all of there conference games. I think that the best thing for the Grizz is to play 1 or 2 FBS teams a season and try to increase revenue and see what happens.
BEAT WEBER!!!
