OK, thanks for clearing that up for me.

Here's a "Thank You" at the 3:11 mark that's just as compelling as Jessup's...

Actually the reason we don't play FBS teams is because we make more with a home game. There are very few FBS teams willing to pay the kind of money we make at home. The ones that will aren't the likes of CSU or Wyoming where you have a chance in the contest. Our AD stated last year that we need at least $600,000 to make it worth giving up a home game. Only the major teams in the BCS will pay that kind of money, but most of the time they would rather pay Weber state and Idaho state $300,000. Those schools are more than happy for that paycheck, but for Montana it is a loss compared to a home game.

Montana football doesn't haven't any budget problems. Football is throwing off big revenue for the athletic department and university.

Montana athletics wouldn't have any budget problems, but for the budget problem of the university and the state. The state and governor are telling the universities to save money and cut back. U of Montana is looking for places to cut back and avoid cutting academic programs. As a result, the university is increasing out-of-state tuition, and in-state tuition to a much less extent, assessing a "tax" on athletic department revenue, and increasing the "rent" the athletic department must pay for using athletic facilities, like the basetball area.

Don't say such stupid things, if you have no clue what you're talking.

A better question is, " if he is so lazy and doesn't want to read it, why does he feel the need to comment on the topic with some backhanded shit?"

He never has anything of importance to ever offer anyways. All he does is troll and be a prick.

Degree. That's funny.

Question I asked earlier, but never answered - why during the last UM budget crisis did they play FBS to close the budget gap? That was the official reason given for ditching FCS teams. Why did it work then, but not now?

I don't have any evidence, just pure speculation, but we managed to get two large FBS schools (Iowa and Oregon) to pony up the cash to bring us in. Also, since then we have further expanded Washington-Grizzly Stadium, making home games more lucrative, so we would need more money from than we previously did to make it worth it. Again, this is entirely guesswork on my part and you bring up a solid question, hopefully someone else knows more than I do.

The expansion part I can buy - needing a larger guarantee to cover the additional revenue that the expansion has generated.

Iowa paid us $750K and I think Oregon was something like $700K, or maybe I have those reversed. The extra 3500 high dollar seats didn't go in until the year you guys came here...2008? So the paydays were pretty decent at the time and you can see why so few FBS are gonna pony up the cash to have us go play them.

At the time that those FBS games were scheduled UM was doing a little over 500K/game or something close to that and the fact that instead of going on the road and paying the money to travel to the FCS schools they made about 600-700K by replacing FCS's with FBS's. Did it suck...yes, but they fucked up by letting shit get of hand and they had to make repairs quickly.
