CCU/Appy match-up?
Both teams are in the NIT now thanks to Conference Championship losses. Think they will get paired up? Ohh the irony of CCU facing old coach Buzz Peterson.

Would be an interesting matchup...I'm ok with beating the Beach Chickens one more time.
Appalachian State Mountaineers:
National Champions: 2005, 2006, and 2007
Southern Conference Champions: 1986, 1987, 1991, 1995, 1999, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2012
NO DOUBT ABOUT IT! WE'RE GONNA SHOUT IT! NOTHING'S HOTTER THAN A-S-U!

Coastal is guaranteed a spot in the NIT as the regular season conference champion. Appalachian State does not have this luxury. How realistic are their chances of getting into the NIT?bodoyle wrote:Both teams are in the NIT now thanks to Conference Championship losses. Think they will get paired up? True, my mistake. I would think they have a decent shot.

Re: CCU/Appy match-up?
First, the long-winded answer. For starters, as has been mentioned, there is no guarantee that any SoCon team will be awarded an NIT bid, though I suspect that one might sneak into that field. I think ASU deserves an NIT bid...they are clearly the second best team in the SoCon right now. But they might get hosed because Bobby Cremins and C of C are"better known", etc., etc., and we know that only one SoCon team will go, if any go at all (bigger conference teams will likely get first consideration).
But let's say ASU does get in. They will not be playing Coastal, at least not in the first round. The NIT seeds its 32 teams 1-8 in 4 different regionals). Both ASU and CCU would get lower seeds (CCU will most likey get an 8, due to the low RPI of the Big South, and I see ASU in the 6-8 range). So both of them will likely play at bigger conference schools in the NIT's first round (and be underdogs). And it's likely that the two will be assigned to different regions, and if so, they'd both have to make it to the final four or championship to play, which isn't likely to happen.
The short answer is NO!

Somebody will be going to Gainesville.

I know you are somewhat joking, but I could really see an 8 CCU @ 1 UF first-round NIT matcup. Could CCU win it? Maybe...anything's possible.

the Gates are tough at home (except for a surprise loss to South Alabama), I do think they'll squeak into the Big Dance tho.woffordgrad94 wrote:tampajag wrote:Somebody will be going to Gainesville.(Not laughing at either team, just poking fun at the Gators

I wouldn't be shocked for one of those teams to somehow get Wichita State....good luck with that one...
Re: CCU/Appy match-up?
We've been there and won in the 07 Bracket Busters. We won 25 games in 07 and had a better squad and got selected for the NIT. I don't see it happening this year. Hope I'm wrong.clenz wrote:I wouldn't be shocked for one of those teams to somehow get Wichita State....good luck with that one...
Re: CCU/Appy match-up?
WSU of 2007 this isn't. This is that WSU team. That team finished 16-14 and 8-11 in conference....the 6th rated RPI conference that year. That same basic WSU team finished 17-14 the next year, which included a win at ASU.proasu89 wrote:We've been there and won in the 07 Bracket Busters. It would be an interesting match up this year. WSU if 45th in the RPI and if they could win away from home they would be a 27-30 win team this year.
I'm hearing they are holding hope for UNC though...I think they just want to beat a UNC team, no matter how bad, so they can say for years they beat UNC....WSU fans are dumbasses like that.
