The WAC is thought of as a weak conference and will not add a FCS team to try and improve the conference strength of schedule. The WAC needs to expand exposure into other areas such as Teases and the south for recruiting. If the Grizz are having money problems how are they going to afford the additional 20 scholarships required at the FBS level? Also because of title 9 Montana would have to add 20 women’s scholarships. I don’t think that they can afforded it. Is the Grizzly fan base going to accept 2-3 loosing seasons? Could Montana sell 15 to 20 thousand tickets a game with a loosing season? If they don’t sell tickets how do you pay for football? Montana thinks that because they beat Idaho a few years back that they would do well in the WAC I don't think so. The Grizz are a good football team at the FCS level but would get beat horribly by Boise, Idaho, Fresno, Hawaii, and Nevada. Utah state and LA Tec are a maybe and UNM and San Jose State are there best chance of a win. The Grizzly’s would stand a good chance of losing all of there conference games. I think that the best thing for the Grizz is to play 1 or 2 FBS teams a season and try to increase revenue and see what happens.
1) News flash ... FBS are clearing their schedule of the Montana's, App State's or many CAA schools because the FBS hate games that are not guaranteed wins. Look no farther than Michigan; they don't schedule the App State's any more, they schedule the Delaware State's.
.
2) 20 scholarships is chump change; $2 a football ticket covers that.

3) UM can go 1-10, 3-8 and 5-6 the first 3 years in the WAC and still put 20k butts in the seats. Killing attendance in large numbers at traditional football schools takes generations. Again looks at Michigan the last few years; they still fill the Big House.

4) Big changes are coming to conferences. Especially if the Big Ten goes to 14, which it easily could. And the PAC 10 makes big moves if that happens. There are too many scenarios, but many of them will have the smaller conferences getting raided. Utah, BYU move up (both former WAC members with Arizona and ASU). Then WAC loses Boise State and Fresno State to the MWC as it looks at surviving. Now the WAC has two choices, expand or die. And don't be surprised to see a conference looking at death, finding a way to help FCS schools make the transition. The possibilities are endless but they all signal change.

5) I think Delaware in the FCS is exactly where they belong and I am sure many UM fans think the same about there school. More change is coming however and the landscape is going to look different in 2012 than it does today.

I did not know that UMass = Delaware State...since we are playing at the Big House this year... :ohno:

No Col. they do not equal Del. State but you know that what he says is true. You posted an article about this time last year stating exactly what jd posted. Of course at the time the article mentioned Richmond, Montana, and App. State. :thumb:

jd already made mincemeat of most of what you posted but this one is the kicker for me. How does sceduling an FBS team increase revenues for UM? You have a line on any FBS schools that are willing to pay $850K to 1 million to get us to play there? If you do then the AD @ Montana will probably be happy to hear from you. :thumb:

I don't mind a fella throwing his opinion out there but try to at least make it fit logically within the facts that we know already.

Well what choice do they have other than FCS? Sun Belt? Army? No one from the MWC is dying to join

If this is actually plausible would it be possible that UM just adds two joke sports like rodeo and cross country skiing?

Also, for all the Griz fans who are sick of this conversation, as I would be after being a Griz fan for so long, you guys sure do like to contribute to the discussions still. :thumb:

1) Would have to be recognized NCAA Sports
2) Schollies would have to equal 22

Possibilities could include Skiing, Rifle, Bowling, Softball...

That is a long flight every 2 years from Delaware. Can I request the game be during Elk season and I can make a long weekend of it. Rifle season please; my bow skill suck.

No elk left, or deer for that matter, here in MT. I will be able to send a team, or pack as we call them here, of wolves out for our home game requirement with ya though. We will take the "L" and you can get a pest.

Right, and they're all FCS. So I'm not sure what Sapper is talking about

I think the WAC would want any of those over ULM, ULL, Arkansas St.

We already know the 3 Texas schools have FBS plans. Lamar could take awhile. N.Texas was at the top of the WAC's list but they turned us down in hopes of getting in CUSA.

"the farm extension" is a football stadium expansion away from having the facilities to make a jump to FBS serious. I still can't believe they built a new stadium with only a capacity of just over 10k. Another example of great planning. :ohno:
