Panthers Keep Purging, Release WCU's Hoover

CHARLOTTE — The Panthers added to their purge of veterans on Monday with the release of longtime fullback Brad Hoover, leaving Carolina with only three players on the roster older than 30.

Letting 33-year-old Hoover go saves the Panthers close to $1 million in payroll for the 2010 season and ends the former Western Carolina star's 10-year stay in Carolina.

“I want to thank the organization for 10 great years and the fans that supported me,” Hoover said in a statement released by his agent, Tim Irwin. “I leave with a heavy heart, but I will be trying to play somewhere else.”

Too long, but I'm more concerned with Hurney getting purged. I like how Hurney speaks of a "youth movement" instead of saying what it really is, "rebuilding." Some in Charlotte are speculating that Jerry Richardson is purging the team to make it move valuable to sell. We'll see what happens, maybe Jordan can buy the Panthers too.
