I could care less about what the exact definition of what social justice is, Glenn beck is a kook who shouldn't be taken seriously and that was my point throughout the thread

Well, church stuff aside, I agree with Beck when he says "social justice" and "economic justice" are basically code for "communism" or something like it. I think it basically refers to the idea of government forcing some people to take care of others. Getting back to religion, I don't think Christ suggested that. I don't think he ever suggested, "Go out and have government make laws to force other people to take care of the poor." I think it was more like "YOU take care of the poor."

To me, it's great that Churches do what they do to help people. But when they start pressing for government action to force others to help people they cross the line.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

Well then, YT, you unjustly impugn Beck's criticism of "social justice."

There is lots of interesting material on the Vatican site. The following excerpt is pertinent to the discussion of "social justice" and relevant to your unjust criticism of Beck: "...more often than not the just demands of the worker movement have led to new forms of servitude, being inspired by concepts which ignored the transcendental vocation of the human person and attributed to man a purely earthly destiny. These demands have sometimes been directed towards collectivist goals, which have then given rise to injustices just as grave as the ones which they were meant to eliminate...."

You are exactly correct, JSO. The distinction makes all the difference in the world. It's clear that Popes John Paul II and Benedict agree with your understanding and have criticized those who have crossed the line. The misinterpretation and misuse and abuse of the Gospels to justify secular redistributionist "social justice" is an abomination.

Watching you people go off half cocked and half informed is what really boggles the mind.

Glenn Beck was dong a special on Father Charles Coughlin when he made those statements about "Social Justice". Do yourselves a favor and do a little research on who Father Coughlin was. He was the radical left-wing Canadian priest who coined the term "Social Justice", and formed the National Union for Social Justice.

The pure ignorance on this forum is rather depressing.

What boggles my mind is how quickly catamount man comes back after he notifies the world that he's leaving for a LONG time.

I take you at your word, but I don't think you can have it both ways.

How can you say that Beck's criticism of a collectivist, redistributionist perversion of "social justice" lacked substance? Do you not fear the unrelenting collectivist impulse favored by skelly?

Suspend your preconceived judgments and watch Beck for a week, YT. Catch him in a lie if you can. Challenge his assumptions, but not blindly - do the homework. Take notes and study what he says. Beck regularly espouses faith, hope and charity, as he did on today's program. It should repeat tonight. Take a look.
Look, we get it. You like the guy. I get the impression that he's one of your political idols. While it seems you might have the desire and the dexterity to make nightly handwritten show transcripts while simultaneously finger-banging your butthole throughout the broadcast—and that's fine—it's not for everybody. Understand that those of us who don't like him aren't just shooting in the dark here. We've caught his act before, I assure you, and no amount of homework is going to change the fact that he's a shiteater in greasepaint and a tinfoil hat who somehow stumbled ass-first into a gig in cable news.

Welcome to the thread, bench. Any actual pertinent facts or analysis you might care to share, or just the typical visceral and vacuous hysteria?

Actually, you do not get it. What I like about Beck is the provocative fecundity of the ideas he throws out on his program.

Similar to invoking Hitler, anytime you use "provacative fecundity of ideas" in a sentence you've probably lost the battle. ;)

What you and Glenn fail to realize is the guys making $7.00 an hour washing your car or those advocating for them are no more of a threat to your well being, the US economy, or liberty than the dudes writing Glenn's payroll checks and managing banks that are too big to fail. :coffee:

He's not talking about churches telling you your politics. He's talking about churches preaching "social justice"... I think that's mainly (and I'm sure Conks would agree) through charity. What kind of church doesn't preach charity? Even his own LDS church (one of the most traditionally conservative) is pissed at him advocating leaving churches that preach "social justice."

When I hear 'social justice' discussed in our church, it usually is in the context of thinking of others than just yourself. Helping/praying the poor, the ostracized, the imprisoned, and those suffering tough times has nothing to do with government programs but with how we look at our fellow man.

Beck = Rush lite

He'd pick a verbal fight with a coathanger, and I'm pretty certain he (1) got beat up a lot as a kid, (2) sat in a corner eating paste, and (3) was the last one picked for kickball - I have no use for anybody on the far left/right. Most of us live somewhere in the middle, and I don't need some right(or left) wing pundit trying to incite some kind of riot with the normal folks.

Of course charity is part of what most churches are about dawg. But that is not what government should be about. Churches should definitely not be advocating that government do the job for failed churches.

And you forget what started this thread. Blasting churches that advocate collecting and redistributing. So you admit he was offbase?
