You guys know how much I love the anthem at the UC for Hawks games....

This guy has got to win the award for douchebag of the year. And to top it off the idiot comes from a military family. Some people are posterchildren for birth control!

Re: Blackhawks Anthem Has To Go?
I read the blog, and I agreed with that guy 100%.
Until I watched the video.
As a 22-year veteran, I've ALWAYS been an ardent supporter of silent reverence when the anthem is played. In fact, as an active duty military member, we were required to stand silently in the MOVIE THEATRE on base when they played the anthem over the loudspeaker in the theatre prior to starting the movie.
But that video gave me the CHILLS. It is readily apparent that there is NO disrespect, and they are cheering FOR the country and FOR the anthem and FOR the troops.
KEEP IT UP, CHICAGO!!!

It's like that every night AZ. A lot of flags and everyone cheering for the country. The blogger is just a bitter red wings fan imo.AZGrizFan wrote:I read the blog, and I agreed with that guy 100%.![]()

GMAFB Rob Otto.
I'd take that any day over people with no passion. I like the traditions like that.
I like watching baseball games in Baltimore where the whole stadium shouts "O!" when they get to "Oh, say does..." toward the end of the anthem. The Baltimore folks even do that at the Dover NASCAR races and the people from points north and south look at each other like "WTF was that?" It's great.
How would he stop the Chicago fans anyway? Could you imagine trying to stop people from cheering? They'll cheer louder!

Re: Blackhawks Anthem Has To Go?
I understand what the dude is saying. To some degree, I agree with him. Every person in the place should have been at POA with a hand over their heart (or have popped a salute if in uniform) and should have been singing along or been reverently silent.
But it was NOT his place to say so in a public forum like that, at least not like he did. That was something for a Chicago reporter to do.
That said, while I disagree with the Chicago practice, we fought for their rights of free speech, and if this is how they choose to exercise it, then so be it. They should have been taught better flag/NA etiquette, but if this is what they want, I'll just cover my ears and be glad they're not burning my flag.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

It takes place here in DC too. The Caps games have even added one to it... "rockets RED glare" now gets louder than the "Oh".93henfan wrote:I like watching baseball games in Baltimore where the whole stadium shouts "O!" when they get to "Oh, say does..." toward the end of the anthem. No offense (I know you like the Craps), but that's gay.89Hen wrote:It takes place here in DC too. The Caps games have even added one to it... If you went to a game you might think otherwise.93henfan wrote:No offense (I know you like the Craps), but that's gay.

I dunno man. I went to a sports bar in Alexandria last year to watch a Caps game with some friends and there were some manly women with Caps jerseys on. I felt like I was in Northeast Philly.89Hen wrote:If you went to a game you might think otherwise.93henfan wrote:No offense (I know you like the Craps), but that's gay.
I haven't been to a Caps home game since they played in the Cap Center.

Caps home games are the best show in town right now. They sell out every night. PASSIONATE fans (oldies and newbies alike). It really is a blast.
It can be kind of expensive though.

Yep, that would be it. That place is pretty much the white-trash sports bar of Old Town.93henfan wrote:Sounds about right. Is the sports bar upstairs?bandl wrote: Would this have been Bugsy's?

I work a half a block from there.

Washington has been trying to get their own "O!" thing for decades. I remember in HS going to a Washington Wave box lacrosse game and they tried to work in WAVE!89Hen wrote:It takes place here in DC too. The Caps games have even added one to it... Washington fans are completely unoriginal.
I am a proud O! yeller, despite it being completely inappropriate. Doesn't matter what the ventue is, I'm yelling O! loud and proud.

Now with Ovechkin, it at least makes sense. BTW, you're just pissed that the Caps outdraw them O's.andy7171 wrote:Washington has been trying to get their own "O!" thing for decades. I remember in HS going to a Washington Wave box lacrosse game and they tried to work in WAVE!

No problem with this tradition at all - this guy just has a very myopic vision of what respecting the country is all about. Who would've thought that cheering for America could be so unpatriotic?

Respect doesn't need to come in silence. Respect only needs to have appreciation and its clear from that video that Chicago Blackhawk fans are appreciative of the great country they are blessed to call home.
