AE's Pro Day

Post by Skjellyfetti »

The Carolina Panthers were among 10 NFL teams at Appalachian State's pro day Tuesday, there to see QB Armanti Edwards.

The Mountaineers star worked as both a quarterback and a receiver during the workouts, and caught punts on a windy Boone afternoon before meeting with reporters.

He joked that the conditions weren't optimal for fielding punts against a high, gray sky, but as with most elements of the pre-draft process, Edwards was accommodating.

"Beggars can't be choosers," Edwards said several times about his multi-tasking.

Along with the Panthers, representatives from Kansas City, Buffalo, Washington, Detroit, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Jacksonville, Philadelphia and Cleveland were here.
As for his individual numbers, Edwards measured at 5-foot-11, 182 pounds. His 40-yard dashes were in the mid-4.4-second range (teams keep their own stopwatch times). He also did 13 repetitions of the 225-pound bench press, and recorded a vertical leap of 34.5 inches.

Haha, I think she saw the thread before I could edit. I was typing the subject and meant to type an apostrophe... but instead hit enter... so the thread title was "AE" and the body of the message was "AE" So, I understand the response.

I think he really helped himself with the 40 time. I wish he could have run it at the combine. Can't wait to hear Smallcollege's take on his performance.

Also, according to Brian on Rivals... Cortez Gilbert had a great workout and is attracting some interest.

I think this performance solidified him being drafted. He could go as early as the 3rd or 4th round to a team who falls in love with him. I personally have a 5th round projection but his workout numbers and production make him a guaranteed draft pick with only one thing that could hold him back -- medical tests. If any chronic problems show up or any damage at all he likely goes undrafted but that won't be known by NFL teams until about 2 weeks before the draft.

Well OK then. If I ran across a thread called AE and the content was only AE, I would have had even less than coffee to add.

Isn't 10 a fairly small number of teams to watch a Pro-Day?

I still see NFL teams just having a hard time spending a high draft pick on him due to his height. I think he gets drafted, but I wouldn't be shocked if it's just a 6th or 7th rounder.

No. Delaware only had 8 teams at their '08 Pro Day to watch Joe Flacco.

I don't think anyone's saying he's going to go high.

I think you're right about the late round pick. Height shouldn't be that much of a factor. Drew Brees is only an inch or so taller. Injury history and not playing in a pro style offense in college will probably be more significant.

Unless he fails his medical exams, I expect AE to go in the late 3rd-late 5th round range. Don't be surprised if he rises up the board late here. It would actually surprise me if he is still on the board at the end of the 5th. His stock has really shot up since his pro day earlier this week.

Thanks for the info, as usual SCFF...do you have an inclination as to which team will take him? Obviously, according to AE himself, Carolina seems to be the most interested...would like to hear if there are others that may be seriously considering drafting him. Thanks.

So what's AE going to do in the NFL? Throw the rock or catch it? Is AE above Tebow at this point?

AE, being Chuck Norris like in stature, will simply throw the ball to himself. 8-)

I love AE! i saw him in Tiger Stadium at 10am before Hurricane Gustav. I wish the Saints would draft both AE and Tebow (but that wont happen). Id buy their jerseys (not a jersey guy - collared man). I got screwed seeing Tebow both times he came to tiger stadium (well tech 3 with his recruiting visit in 2005 against FL - weird).

hope for the best for AE! if he isnt with the Saints i dont want him in Carolina, Atlanta, or TB

I would say Carolina, Miami, New England, Baltimore, and maybe someone like Atlanta might go for AE. Don't be shocked if he is taken in the top 150 picks.

This from e-griz:
Wide receiver Marc Mariani (6-0 7/8, 189) ran 4.48 and 4.49 in the 40, had a 36.5-inch vertical leap, 10-2 broad jump, 4.25 short shuttle, 6.84 three-cone drill and completed 11 repetitions of 225 pounds. Mariani looked good in position drills as well.
So Mariani's taller, has better hands, better vertical, basically just as fast and he's considered in the PFA range?

:coffee: :coffee:

Sounds to me like AE is still livin' off that Michigan win. :coffee:

Yeah, where he played QB, not receiver. Perhaps it says something about Mariani that he spent four more years at receiver than AE, yet pro scouts are not as high on him. Perhaps it's the two national championships, the two Payton awards, or some sort of intangiables that we don't look at. Just throwing out some possible answers to your question. :coffee:
