NOTE to SuperHornet. SW Missouri State is now Missouri State. The SW was legally removed several years ago.

It's not so new now...first game was in 2000. Can't believe the Holmes Center has been around a decade now.GSUhooligan wrote:ASUG8 wrote:

I don't buy that name change, Jon. Just like I don't buy the Titans vice the Oilers (the REAL Titans play in the Meadowlands), the Ducks vice Mighty Ducks, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim vice California Angels, or the dropping of "State" by state schools to make them look like private schools. (i.e. Troy State, Towson State, Memphis State, etc.)
Even worse are stadia name changes. That place in SD is The Murph, in SF it's The 'Stick, and there are a zillion others.
Heck, BOTH Anaheim AND Los Angeles opposed that name change in court, yet somehow it flew. I never understood it, and I never will.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Re: 2010 CIT Thread
Attendance did look like it was pretty bad at the game. I think a lot of the students didn't know the game was free for us. Overheard some people in one class saying $15 wasn't worth paying for the game.... I didn't know until I called the ticket office. They needed to make it more clear.ASUG8 wrote:1,786Ivytalk wrote:

I guess it's not Appalachian State University, it's Watauga Academy, because that's what it was originally until 1903 when it became Appalachian Training School (then Appalachian State Normal School, Appalachian State Teachers College, Appalachian State University).

I'll take that, ASU. Good argument.

It's all good, I still call the Washington Wizards the Bullets and the Nationwide Series the Busch Series...but, that's mainly out of spite.SuperHornet wrote:I'll take that, ASU. Good argument.

Pacific beat Northern Colorado in Greeley, 63-59. Will Figures pulled an Anthony Johnson and went just 1/11 from the field in his final career game for the Bears. The Tigers kept it interesting by shooting just 48% from the line.

From the CIT website..
APSU??? Really?MARCH 22: The semifinals are set for Wednesday night. Appalachian State (24-10) will host Pacific (22-11) in one semifinal. Both teams won on the road. APSU surprised Marshall, while Pacific slipped past Northern Colorado. The other semi will be an all Missouri Valley Conference clash as Missouri State (22-12) will entertain Creighton (18-15). The winner will host the championship game next Tuesday. LIVE SCORES | WATCH | SCHEDULE | TEAMS

Not sure. From what I've read from MSU and CU fans they aren't happy.dbackjon wrote:Why?clenz wrote:And Valley fans aren't happy about this one.
Re: 2010 CIT Thread
I think it is a combo of both.dbackjon wrote:From playing? Or playing each other??
The valley really shit themselves in the NIT this year, because neither team was happy with being there, so they didn't try. That was very clear if you watched the games.
Missoura State isn't happy with being in the CIT. They finished in the play-in round of the Valley tourney but had 20 some wins and wanted an NIT bid.
Creighton has a superiority complex and think they should have been NIT or nothing this year.
Long story short they are pissed about the CIT and playing each other...again...and it not being for some form of title.

I watched the Marshall telecast of the game last night. The announcers believe we are called Appy State.

I was under the impression that was an insult name we folk out west through your way. I would have thought that "unbiased" announcers would have done their homework a bit better than that....
