The good paying jobs have left, wages are low, the middle class is shrinking, most of the country is one bad illness away from financial ruin.
Massachusetts has destroyed more jobs since inmplementing its healthcare plan than any other state in the union. What the hell will happen if the Dems push Obamacare this weekend?

Obama has not created or saved a single net private sector job. He has been killing jobs and can't wait to kill more jobs.

I agree with Z's point that healthcare is a symptom of the problem, and while dawg is right about the declining wealth amongst the middle class it is still another symptom. Of course people should save more but the reality is that each generation expects to enjoy the same standard of living as their parents, and if allowed, they will go into debt to do that.

It's a wealth gap problem.

And if we produced those things here, they could own some of them and still save.

Probably not, they would be too expensive to produce here.
You know...gotta somehow pay for those Cadillac health care plans for the union employees.

No, it wouldn't mean that; you're confusing "average" with "median".

You're correct that saving isn't our thing, but saving isn't encouraged in the US; since the end of WW2 it has been consuming that is encouraged and facilitated by easy credit. More recently there is the fact of the shrinking middle class. People can't save, as opposed to won't save.
BS. BS. BS. You're correct about confusing median with average. However, if the AVERAGE medical bills are $12,000, there's still a fuck of a lot of people out there with virtually no savings. And it ain't that people "can't" save. It's that they WON'T. And please, for the love of God, quit blaming access to easy credit. You've got access to a gun, that doesn't mean you're going to put a bullet in your mouth, does it? HAVING credit and USING credit to buy everything under the sun are two wholly different things. I WAS that guy until about two years ago. I haven't used a credit card in two years and have spent the bulk of my income paying back what I'd borrowed over the previous 10 years. I was NOT a saver. I am now. It requires LIFESTYLE change, and THAT is what people WON'T do. We're a "keep-up-with-the-Joness" society. As Baldy said, they need the latest cell phone, the quads, the RV, the boat, the timeshare, kids in private school, bigger house than their neighbor with a nicer pool, fancier car, etc., etc., etc.

The biggest mistake EVER made in this country was developing an economy based on consumption. Baldy is right, it IS a vicious circle, getting more vicious by the minute. A consumption economy is like crack cocaine, and it ain't gonna be easy to change. But if we don't this is only a harbinger of much worse things to come.

Jeez, Baldy, What is it with you and unions? Did you not make the cut with one of them or something? Why do you nott think cops, firemen, teachers, and airline pilots deserve a good healthcare plan? Would you feel that way about Senators and Congressmen if they were unionized?

Seriously, old fellow, only about 10-12% of labor is unionized. Sooner or later you're going to have to recognize the real problem is poor management. That's why our economy collapsed only twenty years after the Soviet Union's did.

Over 62 million homes in this country pay for basic cable, over 42 million pay for digital cable...
http://www.ncta.com/Statistics.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Dish Network and Direct TV are locked in competition, drawing in more and more customers...both companys stocks are trading higher than they have in years, so business is good...

Just a couple of indicators (there are lots more) that shows one of two things...

1. Either people can, but refuse to save, preferring to spend their money on items other than basics...

or

2. Most of the country is not one bad illness away from financial ruin...

I'm pretty middle class and have a nice nest egg that I've worked for a while saving...most of the people I work with have done the same,I know because we compare notes...

Why do you not think it's possible to have a good healthcare plan without the bloat of a union running interference?

Wow...

This is funny as hell. The guy who whines to the point of tears wailing about "corrupt" Wall Street, is the first to defend the most corrupt organizations to have ever existed in our country's history.

Do I really need to remind you of the long gory and bloody history of organized labor unions and their brothers in arms in organized crime?

Is there really any surprise that there are more unions members in government than in any other industry?

Connect the dots, dawg... :ohno:
