If that's the case, they should be identified and kicked out of the group!
Definitely, and I'm sure they will be, but since this was only witnessed by Lewis, the other Congressman, and his spokesperson...it's very doubtful that it even happened. At least on the scale they are proclaiming. :coffee:

Not that they didn't probably chant something more appropriate, but with equal vigor.

The difference is that Byrd said he was wrong on national TV. T-waggers don't even have the courage of their convictions, that's why they cover their racism with a veneer of tax protest. If it were really about taxes and spending they would have been seen before it became clear that Obama was going to be elected.

You are ignorant enough to believe that thousands upon thousands upon thousands of people have all come together and organized an anti-black president movement and not one "insider" has come forward to spill the beans on this group of racists?

And BTW, Robert Byrd went on national TV and said the N-word in 2001...twice.

Well it is true that there was no protest from the Hard Working T-party when the Bush administration was practicing socialist policy... very similar socialist policy to what we're seeing right now...

1) Stimulus Checks = Money taken from some and given to others = communism (No Protests)
2) Record Deficit Spending (No protest)
3) Bush did not veto a single spending bill during his first term in office. Instead, he signed every spending bill that crossed his desk

Where was the agony back then..?

The T-party folks are mostly just uninformed / easily agitated and extremely gullible
I can't really figure out why anybody is actually paying attention to them... other than the misspelled signs and the ridiculous hypocrisy - it's mostly entertaining and also self-confirming - I mean this is not the brightest bunch of Americans (God bless 'em, they are serious)

I don't even know if the allegations are true or not. But let's say that they are. I think that the Tea Party movement is an almalgum of disparate groups. I'm glad to see it because the central objective seems to be to cut back on government. There seems to be a recognition that the "government is responsible for everything" approach that's become more and more prevalent over the last century can't be sustained indefinitely. Those are good things.

I also look at these efforts to find ways to attack them by focusing on a few trees rather than the forest as indications that they are a threat to the "progressive" or "liberal" or whatever one wants to call it agenda. When you're effective, you get attacked. And "progressives" are particularly fond of that approach.

My opinion is that the economic downturn shortly before the 2008 Presidential election was a primary catalyst for the Tea Party movement. It's what led to the massive stimulus expenditures at the end of the Bush Administration and the beginning of the Obama Administration and my understanding is that it was those stimulus expenditures that sparked a popular response.

I think that the reason the Tea Party was not "around" during the Bush Administration is that the events that ignited it occurred too late. By the time the response to the events gathered steam, Bush was out of office.

In my opinion the Tea Party would not be as big today if McCain had won, even if McCain was spending as much money as Obama is.

There were plenty of people who were plenty upset about Bush's stimulus plan. I will be glad to post links to articles written by countless Conservative columnists and pundits showing that fact if you want, but I think even you know that isn't necessary.

As horrible as Bush's $152 Billion stimulus package was, and as ridiculous as his Medicare Prescription drug boondoggle was, both pale in comparison.
Do I really need to explain the difference between the $152 Billion Bush spent for his stimulus to Obama's $860 Billion?

Also, do I really need to explain the difference between the idiotic Medicare prescription drug program, and the government takeover of the entire US healthcare system?

Speaking of not being too bright...you and dawg are right, this movement only exists because Obama is a black man.

You are right, BlueHen, but it is unlikely that McCain would be spending as much as Obama. His stimulus would have been smaller and more targeted. He is more tight-fisted and not as ambitious programmatically. His programs would have been less expensive and more acheivable. That said, he would be suffeing the same bad press and poor ratings (probably worse, because he is an old, white, Republican male) from an angry and frightened electorate.

There were criticisms, but not protests.

All three of your points are on target, Cleets. I would add Bush's his failure to stem illegal immigration and the prescription drug benefit. Long before the end of his presidency, conservatives were howling about these two issues, and to a lesser extent his failure to veto a Republican spending bill. That doesn't make Obama right, and it doesn't necessarily make Bush equally wrong as you suggest.

There is plenty of blame for Bush to bear, but the distinctions between his policies and Obama's are important. The Bush legislative agenda enjoyed broad bi-partisan support, both with Republican-majority and even with a Democrat-majority Congresses. I would suggest that the prescription benefit was far more egregious spending error than the tax rebate, and should replace it on your list, because it will last forever and is unsustainable. The Bush tax rebate was a much smaller "evil," because it was less expensive, limited, one-time, more targeted, and not as much a redistribution as letting people keep their own money - just as a stimulus should be!

Perhaps my biggest bone with Bush is that he did not veto a single spending bill, but in hindsight, the first Bush stimulus - most of which has already been paid back - was probably what was truly needed to stem disaster (not the follow-on Obama porkulus), and we probably should have stopped right there.

Well you kinda missed my point (completely)
1) Record spending when Bush was in office was so upsetting and so disturbing it got him "re-elected" as president for a second term

So yes I see your point

2) The government take-over of "The entire US Health care system" as you call it... has not happened.. and my guess is it won't happen anything like Rush and Glen Beck are suggesting (at least I sure as hell hope not) I'm not a fan of the present US system or the proposed future system - both are ridiculous

A) The present System has always been designed to make Drug companies and insurance companies record profits - and - shouldn't involve Human lives (and is better for lawyers than doctors)
B) The proposed future system is a completely unmanageable pipe dream and places unrealistic expectations on the Federal Governments ability to "manage" which it has never proven it can do

Back on topic:
I never suggested that Obama being black had anything to do with anything... so I'm not sure where you come up with that in my post... My point was simple and was not about a few pundits paying mild lip service: Bush record spending didn't upset the Hard working conservative Americans as much as it should have - not even close - they re-elected him and he was about as socialist as any president we've ever had (up until the present socialist in office today) that's all

And why do you and native and blueballs always feel the need to take some kind of wise crack shot at my education..? Always implying that I should be "smarter than that" or "Know better" and in each case it's not at all about what I know or don't know or how smart I am- it's about you not agreeing with me...

I don't care where you went to school - why are you guys so concerned about where I went to school..?

Lastly:
My time at the University of Washington was actually the most technically difficult (for me)
The university of Montana was also very hard for me
My time(s) at Harvard involved Applied Sciences / Materials Sciences which are my core strengths

Lastly:
My time at the University of Washington was actually the most technically difficult (for me)
The university of Montana was also very hard for me
My time(s) at Harvard involved Applied Sciences / Materials Sciences which are my core strengths

Not Poly-sci
Well.

That explains it, then. :coffee:

My opinion is that the economic downturn shortly before the 2008 Presidential election was a primary catalyst for the Tea Party movement. It's what led to the massive stimulus expenditures at the end of the Bush Administration and the beginning of the Obama Administration and my understanding is that it was those stimulus expenditures that sparked a popular response.

I think that the reason the Tea Party was not "around" during the Bush Administration is that the events that ignited it occurred too late. By the time the response to the events gathered steam, Bush was out of office.

D) And why do you and native and blueballs always feel the need to take some kind of wise crack shot at my education..? Always implying that I should be "smarter than that" or "Know better" and in each case it's not at all about what I know or don't know or how smart I am- it's about you not agreeing with me... I don't care where you went to school - why are you guys so concerned about where I went to school..?
A) The profits in th insurance industry are not remarkable. The flaws in a for-profit system are even less egregious than the flaws in a government system. NO ONE is entitled to unlimited medical benefits. We need to figure out how to put the elements of personal responsibility and accountability back into the equation.

B) We are in violent agreement! :thumb:

C) Point well taken. :thumb:

D) I take a shot because you can be as pompous as me and this place is more like a fraternity house than a debating society. I apologize if I have gone too far with you. For the record, I admire your obvious intelligence and educational achievements, but reserve the right to agree or disagree with your points. :thumb:

But I really like intelligent points and reasonable debate, so THANKS for chiming in, Cleets! :thumb:  :kisswink: :coffee:
