Don't hold your breathe...there are more people at my school that think a republic is a government ruled by Republicans and a Democracy a government ruled by democrats than understand the difference between liberals and conservativescatamount man wrote:I'm just glad that there's a 16 year old out there that actually cares about politics. Re: Obamacare Speech
I am not aware whether or not Beck said that Progressives want to control "every aspect of your life," but the observation that the impulse to control is central to Progressivism is historically accurate. Exhibit A is the crowning achievement of the Progressive Era, the 18th Amendment. (Prohibition) Exhibit Z is Obama's healthcare plan, which establishes more egregious controls than perhaps any previous legislation. For example, it requires every citizen to buy healthcare or pay a fine.youngterrier wrote: ...The problem I have with you and Beck is that you misrepresent the other side's intentions. Beck said "Progressives want to control every aspect of your life." that is not true. They wish to provide a safety net. Instead of explaining why the safety net principal doesn't work as I alluded to he'd rather waste our time comparing people to communists, slippery slopes, etc instead of pointing out why their REAL philosophy is wrong. Rhetoric is everything, and once you make false comparisons and misrepresentations of others' views you lose the moral high ground. I have not disagreed with you on ideology but rather this purpose; people don't like us because the stuff Beck says about them ....

if I'm not mistaken progressives are divided on the purchasing fine (obama was originally against it in the campaign and clinton was for it)

I was referring to progressives as a movement, not to individual progressives.youngterrier wrote:He did, its in one of the clips Stewart used to make fun of him (november 9th 2009 i think)native wrote:
