Thugocracy: It's The Neo-Lib Way

Post by travelinman67 »

They can't debate you with logic.
They don't respect differing opinions.
When not in positions of authority, they shout-down and "get in the face" of those who oppose their views.
And when given the authority to legislate, abusively draft laws to undermine the first amendment for their own political gain.
But worst of all, they cower like the pathological liars they are when confronted with their misdeeds.

It's the new wave of liberalism...

The coming liberal thugocracy

http://washingtontimes.com/news/2008/oc ... acy/print/

...and this excerpt pretty much sums it up...
...Once upon a time, liberals prided themselves, with considerable reason, as the staunchest defenders of free speech. Union organizers in the 1930s and 1940s made the case that they should have access to employees to speak freely to them, and union leaders like George Meany and Walter Reuther were ardent defenders of the First Amendment.

Today's liberals seem to be taking their marching orders from other quarters. Specifically, from the college and university campuses where administrators, armed with speech codes, have for years been disciplining and subjecting to sensitivity training any students who dare to utter thoughts that liberals find offensive. The campuses that once prided themselves as zones of free expression are now the least free part of our society.

Obama supporters who found the campuses congenial and Mr. Obama himself, who has chosen to live all his adult life in university communities, seem to find it entirely natural to suppress speech they don't like and seem utterly oblivious to claims this violates the letter and spirit of the First Amendment. In this campaign, we have seen the coming of the Obama thugocracy, suppressing free speech, and we may see its flourishing in the four or eight years ahead.

Seriously, look at what's happened politically...

The oligarchic paradigm which used to equate to Cheneyesque characters who prided themselves on the number of siblings they'd consumed, has been replaced with epic degree pious, ignorant, uneducated (or faux educated) ideologues who hold no values consistent with their presumed self-identity.

Shout-downs? In the face arguing? Banning "tainted" speech? Restricting speech identified as "hateful", using a definition which varies regionally? And faux intellects using alleged (and fallacious) libel and/or obscenity standards to censor political commentary they oppose?

Bullsh!t!

Just plain Bullsh!t, Jon.

Imagine if this same methodology was still being used in schools to teach hate about homosexuality...

...and the courts, in obedience to popular cultural trends, turned a blind eye?

It's the way it was, but you can never use the "end's justifies the means", unless, of course, you ARE Dick Cheney and the debate is about torture.

I understand what you are saying, and agree with most of it. There should be an HONEST exchange of values/ideas.

Would you object to someone teaching that inter-racial couples are evil, and that they are the devil's work, and must be banned?

WTF????

I don't live in Boone.

I wouldn't be happy if some numbnuts started spewing racial hate, however, it's going on right now, but from a different perspective, with a different agenda. Do I like it: Hell, no. Would I go down, tar and feather the teacher and "run them out of town on a rail"? Hell, no. Even when Ward Churchill was spewing his nonsense, my biggest beef with him was that he misrepresented his credentials, then lied about it. There's tons of professors harping their agendas, but, quite honestly, it's not like college age kids are mindless drones (...can you remember back that far?) absorbing every word of nonsense thrown at them.

Worse than being exposed to "hate" paraded as "knowledge", are students who speak out and challenge their professors only to take the hit for their insolence: It exists, and the ramifications are chilling.

BTW, just spoke to a college student tonight...they're using Mother Jones type articles about environmentalism to develop critical thinking.

Now, I know you'll laugh and say, "what's wrong with that", but MJ type literature is neither objective nor open-minded. Using that form of "pseudo-logic" to indoctrinate their thought process under the guise of "teaching", only handicaps them, and ultimately hurts our society.

Back on topic, however, the article chronicles several incidents by Obama campaign staff and supporters that should be a loud wake-up call to every American, liberal and conservative. Anyone who would have the gall to manipulate law enforcement as quasi Mafioso soldiers to "silence" their opponent, should be charged with civil rights violations. Whoever orchestrated that plan needs to be exposed and enjoined in reputation with the Lee Atwoods, Jim Carvilles and Karl Roves of political slime "Hall of Shame".

T-man, no offense, but cry me a river on your original link. This is straight out of the Republican playbook. Republicans have been doing that for years, goaded on by the likes of Rush Limbaugh, Hannity, Michael Savage and dozens of local right-wing radio thugs.

Those events that Mr. Barone and you find so offensive and thugish have been happening to Democrats for over a decade.

Get off the fricking cross - The Gingrich/Limbaugh's et al started those tactics in recent American political history. Don't come unglued when they are used back on Repubicans.

Yeah, they suck, and should never happen, but where was yours and Barone's outrage when it was happening to Dems?

Other than tongue-in cheek jokes, I have never supported that genre of uber-conservatives for two reasons:
1) They are Republican homers who've always defended the Republicans/Republican party even when caught with their hands in the cookie jar (the Donks do the same, but I'm not talking about them).
2) They'll defend oligarchic greed over America's interests every time. As you know, I'm an American first and foremost: What's best for our country (jobs, prosperity for all classes, constitutional protection), always comes before personal gain.

(Damn, those holes in my hand healed quick!)

Back on point: The ends never justifies an unconstitutional means. (I'll loan you my hammer and nails.)

No - restricting access, making people sign loyalty oaths, allowing pro-bush signs into speeches, but not allowing anti-bush signs into same rallies, etc.

Sorry about the delay...

...been knee deep in it out here in SoCal the past 24...I'll post more tonight once I get to the airport.

re: Bush, L.E. use...

Could you please cite examples (...and not the "convention" sh!t...or "free speech" zones, when the Pres travels...that goes both ways...). I honestly am unaware of any incidents, and if I were, the Bush Admin would have been the recepient of my rapier keyboard flames. ANY Presidential use of L.E. to silence citizen critics should be viscerally and loudly denounced.

BTW, be careful what doors you open up with Presidential abuse to attack critics...Bubba had a whole closet full of AG/FBI/IRS uses to investigate & attack critics...akin to what FTB's been doing in CA for decades.

Talk to you guys tonight...

(BTW BigApp...chill...I'm just f'n with you Hillbillies. I know there's no racism in N.C. )

Didja get that from a UNC research study?

Spent plenty of time in most states. While CA is probably not the MOST "integrated" state, it's one of the top. Don't forget, we've got 'em all: Native American, Mexican, Central American, South American, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, African (don't mean African American), Canadian, Russian, Eastern European, Vietnamese, East Indian, and every one of the early immigrant ethnicities. Within 3 miles of my place in the central valley, there's neighborhoods that speak only Russian, Tagalog, Spanish, and Vietnamese. While there's still segregation via socioeconomic level, intercultural families have almost become the norm.

Now...I'll wager a good bottle of hooch, if I walk into a Baptist church anywhere in NC next Sunday, the odds of me seeing an interracial African American-Caucasion couple sitting in the pews, much less with their family of interracial children, is about as likely as Jon waking up tomorrow and realizing he's fallen madly in love with Ann Coulter.

Obama Supporter Assaults Female McCain Volunteer in New York

While the Democrat-leaning media continues to scare undecided voters with bedtime stories about some mythical angry McCain supporter whom nobody has seen, here is a real district attorney’s complaint documenting an unprovoked assault by an enraged Democrat against a McCain volunteer in midtown Manhattan: “Defendant grabbed the sign [informant] was holding, broke the wood stick that was attached to it, and then struck informant in informant’s face thereby causing informant to sustain redness, swelling, and bruising to informant’s face and further causing informant to sustain substantial pain.”
