US military deaths in Iraq war at 4,386

As of Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at least 4,386 members of the U.S. military had died in the Iraq war since it began in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.

The figure includes nine military civilians killed in action. At least 3,480 military personnel died as a result of hostile action, according to the military's numbers.

The AP count is four fewer than the Defense Department's tally, last updated Tuesday at 10 a.m. EST.

Since the start of U.S. military operations in Iraq, 31,739 U.S. service members have been wounded in hostile action, according to the Defense Department's weekly tally.

I'm betting it will go on until at earliest late 2011. The political pressure to wrap it up quickly and leave is minimal. The anti-war left tend to give the benefit of the doubt to donks when they're fighting wars. And of course (most of) the budget-hawk conservatives aren't going to ask Obama to hurry and wrap it up.
