we should pray for the safety of our government leaders

Post by catamount man »

very disturbing that fringe elements in society are THREATENING THE LIVES of our own elected officials and all because our leaders want to make the lives of the less fortunate better. What has happened to America? Americans no longer fear God nor love their fellow man, we rob and pillage from our own and call it business and yet we tell the rest of the world how to live? Sad. This nation has jumped the shark and I don't ever see America becoming the world power again that she once was. Sad. :ohno: :ohno: :ohno:

On a more serious note: For PETE"S sake. This kind of stuff happens all the time. That guy who was trying to hold up the extension of unemployment benefits a while back was getting death threats. Congress just passed a total boondoggle under circumstances in which, incredibly, the majority of the American People had enough sense to be opposed to it. There are 300 million people in this country. Of COURSE there are going to be some people who react in an unadvisable way.

Ah... yes Senator Jim Bunning
Who went out of his way to stop unemployment benefits...
no big deal until you understand this:
All the while (and this is a proven fact) he paid himself $180K salary from his non-profit organization and it was documented that he worked one hour a week for his salary

Ah... he's a MODEL Republican

The point is that he took an unpopular position and got threats. It's going to happen. When you are dealing with hundreds of millions of people holding any particular position there are going to be plenty of people who do things that are embarassing.

Though it's not related to the point: Let's say it's true that he worked one hour a week for a 180K salary. I don't see how that is relevant to anything. That has absolutley nothing to do with the question of whether or not the government should be extending unemployment benefits.

Well I'll break it down for you John...
He paid himself - the only employee of his charity - from money that was "given" to him for doing 1 hour of work a week...

Can you see the irony - keeping money from people who didn't earn it - all the while paying yourself from money that was "given" to you... something like $3,400 a week of other peoples money - for one hour of work...

Now that's Republican to the core - in fact - I love that most republicans will see nothing wrong with this form of stealing and fraud as long as it's called "work"

That has absolutely nothing to do with the validity of the position he was taking. In any case, the point is that he was getting threats. It's not like taking unpopular positions and getting threats is unusual.

I get that point John...
But if you're the kind of guy who siphons charity money to pay yourself $3,400 dollars an hour - how do you negotiate the mental land mines - without being wholly dishonest and pathological to pretend to be the person he pretended to be...

surely you can see that...? No..?

Literally only a Republican can completely not see the disconnect required to pull that scam and not see it as a scam... and that to me is comedy

The article "claimed" "He works on foundation business for an estimated one hour a week. ..." It never stated who's estimate that was.

You obviously didn't read the bolded part. So again, I'm calling BS unless you have a link from something OTHER than a left wing rag

No. He was arguing about a commitment not to spend money forcibly collected through taxes without "paying for it." That has absolutely nothing to do with how money voluntarily contributed to a charity is spent. Discussion of how much a charitable organization paid him for X hours of work is totally irrelevant.

Right...
This is exactly why we have more thieves as politicians than honest men

this whole conversation - cognitive dissonance 101 - proves my point about the "Conservative Mind"

The sanctimonious right wing pontificates to the masses about morality while stealing (under another name that doesn't sound as bad as the word stealing) and tells us all how we are doing it all wrong and everybody (except themselves) is lazy and bilking the system... all the while they overtly swindle under other names

Perfect... absolutely perfect... and this all makes sense to a conservative

Not always. Only on special occasions. You certainly earned this one with all your wailing about how bad Obamacare is, then claiming that all the problems are Republicans' fault.
