Tubby Smith to Oregon Ducks?

Post by Gil Dobie »

According to a local sports station, the AP says Tubby has been offered by Oregon.
The local sports guy doesn't think he'll accept. :coffee:

As much as I hate Oregon, that is a pretty attractive job. Close to both Seattle and California for recruiting as well as the opening of Matt Court next year. I would be surprised if the Ducks don't land a big name candidate.

Listened to Cowherd this morning and he said that Tom Izzo is in the running as well. He would be the highest paid Coach in college b-ball.

Isn't the entire Oregon athletic department in shitter right now? Why would anyone want to go there right now?

Yahoo Sports is reporting Izzo saying that he's had ZERO contact with the Rubber Duckies.

Reports in Minny say Tubby has been offered $200,000 more than his Minnesota contract. You would think the Nike bank account in Oregon could add another zero.

I'd be shocked if Tom Izzo left Michigan State for Oregon.

I agree. In fact, I'd say it's 1000% more likely that the next MSU head football coach will be Steve Mariucci (Izzo's BFF) than Izzo bolting for Oregon.

The feeling around Portland is that the firm in charge of the search is using the Duck job to get their guys better deals at their own universities. Doubt Tubby will leave Minnesota and pretty sure Izzo won't leave Michigan State, regardless of what the Ducks/Nike (i.e. Phil Knight) offers. Portland radio 95.5 TheGame reported that former NBA coach (and Blazer player) Terry Porter has interviewed, but that is the only one they could confirm that had been interviewed. St. Mary's coach Bennett has reportedly turned it down as had Gonzaga's Few. Carlisimo has also said he is not interested.

Ducks are using the same firm that the Beavers used when Oregon State was looking a few years ago that netted Robinson.
