Chuck South has played 5 money games in the last 3 seasons. Hawaii in 2007, U.Miami/Miami(Ohio) in 2008, Florida/S. Florida in 2009 and we have Hawaii/Kentucky on the schedule for 2010.

Montana, App and Delaware are in unique positions that they can bring in a Western State, West Chester etc. and have enough attendance to make those their money games rather then play FBS. Can't say I like paying that kind of money for a glorified scrimmage but it is what it is.

I don't mind playing money games if they are (1) close for a road trip (South Carolina versus Missouri) and (2) are winnable or have a regional interest.
FU had quite a tear of winning these during he 80s. Gave Pitt a run in 04. But generally I don't like games that are 500 miles away and you get smacked.
Oh yeah our game this year is South Carolina. We haven't played them since '82 I believe which was they year (and the game) we started our four game win streak against D-IA opponents
Re: Money games
ASU played both Kansas and LSU in the 2005 championship year, so playing two FBS power-six members and still having a most successful season can be done. But has been previously mentioned, with ASU drawing what it's drawing now, I don't see that happening again unless someone forks over $750,000, and that's not going to happen.
Re: Money games
Unless you listen to some of the folks on the UNI board who think that because BCS teams HAVE paid $750K+ for games in the past, that ALL FBS schools should pay that much to their FCS opponents.AppinVA wrote:I don't see that happening again unless someone forks over $750,000, and that's not going to happen.

Re: Money games
I expect to see 2 money games on Maine's schedule during the next 12 game season (2012?).
Go Black Bears!
Re: Money games
The fact is that prices for FCS games are going up. Schools like UNI can go out and get 600K from BYU or 800K from Michigan (but it was turned down because it would've hurt our playoff chance which we didn't make anyway) but heaven forbid that the in-state school actually pay the going rate. Rates for money games are going up. Hell, West Virginia agreed to pay Nevada-Las Vegas $740,000 for a game this season. Rutgers got Kent State for a game in 2012 that would guarantee a $750,000 payment to the Golden Flashes for simply making the trip to Piscataway. Hell, fucking MAINE got more than UNI did to play at Iowa.JayJ79 wrote:Unless you listen to some of the folks on the UNI board who think that because BCS teams HAVE paid $750K+ for games in the past, that ALL FBS schools should pay that much to their FCS opponents.AppinVA wrote:I don't see that happening again unless someone forks over $750,000, and that's not going to happen.
The prices for these games are going up. They have gone from a B10 school playing 250K to 500-700K for games. I just hate the fact that UNI gives Iowa a break on costs, because it doesn't do shit for us except for them not dealing with us anymore...tough shit on that then. It's not like UNI doesn't/hasn't gotten offers from other B10/B12 schools for mroe money but UNI has turned them down to play Iowa and Iowa State because of the regional interest in the game...what a load of shit

Any idea why CSU hasn't made it was on Clemson and/or South Carolina's might as well be mandated FCS rotation yet?CSUBUCDAD wrote:Chuck South has played 5 money games in the last 3 seasons. 2011 Wofford
2012 Furman
2013 The Citadel
2014 Coastal Carolina

Re: Money games
Not sure but I am sure Mills will find a way to get them scheduled eventually. Wife and I really don't like having to go to Hawaii to watch the Bucs get killed, but then again the week there is pretty nice:)

Re: Money games
clenz, I thought I've heard that its required at a Regent or legislature level that either IA St. or U IA have to play UNI every year, do you know if that's true? When you played BYU, did you also play either of the IA FBS schools the same year?
Thread-killer extraordinaire.
Re: Money games
I haven't heard that. I don't even think it is required for basketball, in which we play both every year. We only played BYU that year. We play ISU quite a bit, but Iowa is a once every 5 years or so deal. We are 1-14 (played them in 1898-1905, 1912-1914, '95, '97, 2005, '09) against Iowa and 4-18-3 against Iowa State (1899, 1900-05, '16, 36, 37, 45-48, 50, 87, 92, 94, 96, 2001, 03, 04, 06, 07)mebison wrote:clenz, I thought I've heard that its required at a Regent or legislature level that either IA St. or U IA have to play UNI every year, do you know if that's true? We have a contracts with Iowa State or Iowa through 2016 or 2017. We have ISU again this year and 2011, then Iowa in 2012 and 2014. As for 2013, 14-17 I think those have yet to be determined.
As for the regents, they want us to drop to D2, or D3 would make them happier. There is a big issue with them and funding going on right now. We have 6 months to prove we still deserve funding from them because our sports don't run in black. I think we get like 5 million a year. They are having a budget issue, I get that. However, we are a 5 million dollar issue in a budget that is massive. It would be like a 5 dollar issue in a 100 or 200 dollar budget. This is why playing a second money game for us is becoming a real possibility with the playoff expansion. We get football into the black (like I said about 400-500K a year) that means we turn profits in basketball and football. That leaves sports that don't turn profits at a lot of schools. It also means that there would be less money needed from the BOR.

Re: Money games
I liked the game @Navy last year. We play them in most all other sports, we have a nice rivalry with them. I'd like to see us play them every couple of years. Last year @ Northwestern was kinda blah, as I believe this up coming game against Indiana. Things will get a wee bit out of control in 2011 when we get to play the Twerps. I don't like the idea of 99.44% odds of a automatic loss, but like dback said, I'd rather a loss than no program.

What is a money game? Is that what you pay to go to the game?

Re: Money games
The big advantage of playing 2 money games is that you will be even more battle tested than the teams that only played one and way, way more battle tested than those that played none.
This will make you more likely to win the national championship.
