2010 Women's Big Dance Thread

Post by SuperHornet »

SH has more cr@zy picks in THIS tournament than any other. Try these on for size:

1. 14 LA Tech to Sweet 16.

2. 13 Liberty to Final Four.

3. 1 TN takes out undefeated National 1 UCONN in Final Four.

4. The Goddess wins the whole schmear.

The UNI women made the Dance for the first time in school history, which is cool.
But I really don't think they stand a chance against Nebraska in the first round.

The Goddess of Basketball is Sherri Murrell.

2. Wrong: Kentucky 83 Liberty 77

3. TBD

4. Wrong: Texas A&M 84 Portland State 53 (She won't win the whole schmear, but she did get smeared)

I figured that you made two of those picks just for fun and weren't serious. I think Tennessee has a chance, I also wouldn't have been shocked if Louisiana Tech had made the Sweet 16.

I'm about to graduate from Liberty, so that's just heart-loyalty getting ahead of the brain. I've had a major crush on Sherri for ten years or so, since she was at UOP, so that explains that.

I was at the women's tournament today in Norfolk, VA too see UConn/Southern & JMU/Temple.

First of all, this was the first time I've seen UConn in person since Maya Moore was a freshman. I can't imagine who can beat them. The Huskies came out flat in the first half and made some stupid mistakes and turnovers, and were still up by 27 at half-time and had scored over 50 pts. In the second half, UConn played to near perfection that it was absolutely frightening. Backdoor cuts, three after three, pull-up jumpers, beautiful interior passing...it was basketball at its finest. I was in awe.

Second, UConn fans travel REALLY well!

Third, JMU fans were awesome. VERY loud and VERY supportive. Too bad JMU lost 'cause it would have made for a great second round atmosphere between UConn and JMU fans. Temple fans sucked...Southern travelled better than them.

Third, Temple's band is a joke...absolutely pathetic musically. They weren't even dressed in the same colors.

Fourth, Temple's dance team is SO hot...hottest dance team I've ever seen. And to boot, they're EXCELLENT dancers! Too bad the music they danced to played by their band was awful. They deserve better.

Fifth, I thought it was gonna be a treat watching JMU's band, but Southern's was AMAZING...way better than anyone else in the session! They absolutely humiliated, and I mean HUMILIATED UConn's band musically, and UConn's band was pretty damn good by all means. The Southern band got so much applause after each performance, and a standing ovation at the end. They were THAT good.

So that brings me to a final question...why do HBCU's have awesome bands for the most part? Is it something drenched in history, a cultural thing, or a combination of both?

ps. Southern's mascot sucks and Temple's is awesome! The Duke Dog and Huskie looked dead out there.

I didn't even know Southern had a mascot, let alone traveling to a basketball game. They must have dug that suit up some where. When you can't win on the field/court you gotta have something to fall back on (band)

Oh well, there's still little diversity in the Final Four. As Kentucky/Oklahoma is still playing, I'm quite tired by now of UConn. When will they be stopped?

Three are in:
UConn
Stanford
Baylor (thanks to Griner)
All the Ivy League needs to become relevant again is to diversify its OOC schedule.

I think the Baylor - UConn match up is intriguing, primarily because of Griner.

Oklahoma completes the Final Four. 88-68 over Kentucky.

I think UConn will still win it all.

UConn up 13 now lol. Gotta say, when the Huskies dial it up, it's over...scary that they were probably giving like 60% while Baylor was giving 100%, and UConn was still up.

UConn is that good. They are up by 17 now with just over 5 minutes left.

I do think the NC game will be a good one. UConn only beat Stanford by 10 at Hartford earlier this year. Stanford might be able to keep it closer on a neutral court.

Final score: UConn 70 Baylor 50. 77 wins in a row, all by double digits.

Since the 2000 season, the UConn women are 51-5 in the NCAA tourney.

20-12 Stanford at the half. I don't know what Geno is gonna tell the ladies in the locker...but it's not gonna be pretty.

If Stanford even shot just 35% from the field they'd be raping UConn right now. Instead, they're shooting just as horrible and let the Huskies back in it. 2 point game.
