Montana U-16 kids Win National Hockey Cup

Watched this last night on the news, big surprise. Don't know who came up with the name but it is pretty lame.

KALISPELL - A group of Montana teenagers made history over the weekend, bringing the state its first national hockey championship.

The Montana Thunderblades roster features players from all over the state, including one Missoula-native, in Bill Boberg.

The Montana Thunderblades surprised even themselves this past weekend when they made history winning the USA Hockey Nationals in West Chester Pennsylvania. The under-16 hockey team battled eight of the best teams from across the nation.

"Words don't really describe it. You kind of have to feel it. And it feels amazing to be the first team and I don't know its kind of nice because all of the teams that didn't think, all the people that didn't think, we could make it," commented right wing Dylan Gamble. "It's nice to kind of show them that we're more than what they expected of our little team."

The team won 5-4 over the Atlanta Fire in the championship game when the Thunderblades' Jason Smith scored with only 56 seconds left to play in the third period. Goalie Taylor Hulslander had 19 saves and Gamble had two assists during the game.

The Thunderblades have been a team for eight years and are made up of players from all over the state Montana.
