My question is how can Generation X be considered 1966-1976, but Generation Y be 1977-1994. Seems like big fucking jump in age there. I don't know how someone born in 1977 would be able to really related with those born in 1994. Hell, I was born in 1988 and I seem to have more in common with those born in 1977 than I do with those born in 1994
Living in IOWA has something to do with that.

Even you would have to admit, there is some truth to my statement.

I'm just as 'a' religious as anyone on this forum, but I see nothing wrong with Bush or Obama supporting faith based initiatives.

Nice catch phrase, but you're going to have to explain how that turns into religious based laws and government. Giving dollars to religious non-profits is a far cry from laws and government that is based in religion.

True, but to imply that we had so much better choices years ago and simply chose not to take them is naive at best. Anyway, Mountaineer is a **** and he knows it. :coffee: :coffee: :coffee: :twocents:
Wow, that went right over your head. Anyways, I was speaking of the elected officials themselves, numbnut. The three you pointed out were all Baby Boomers. Oh, and your premise is a little off, I'm guessing you'd put me in the "Y" generation (which began in 1980--I was born in 1981)...so, gen Y'ers couldn't vote for Clinton. If anyone here is a fucker, it's you. :kisswink:

Americans United v. Prison Fellowship Ministries Only in Iowa. ;)

May not be government establishing religion, but it sure is tax dollars being used unconstitutionally. Tax's are not voluntary while religion is. Religious organizations do not pay taxes, why should they receive tax dollars?

At least when religious organizations get their govt. handouts reduced, they don't take the state and federal governments to court. Planned Parenthood does.

Some of you may be aware that I am currently a high school student and politically speaking brighter than most my age. Today in Biology class we were having debates over certain issues of population growth and what measures should be taken in the future in order to lessen the repercussions environmentally and in other ways. If we agreed with one concept we went to one side of the room and if we disagreed we went to another. The teacher framed one question in a poor way I believe as it was "Do you think we should limit immigration" (not illegal immigration but legal too) , when I think it should have been "In order to lessen the effects of population growth, should we limit immigration." As a result the discussion became a little more political. there are 30 people in my class, 26 went to the "agree side" and I, among 3 others, went to the "disagree side." The reasoning behind the agreeing side was horrible at best. I don't know if this is an adequate example among the political information received by the younger generation, as I'm willing to bet at least half of them think Obama is a Muslim and or the Antichrist. Anyway, I can live with political misinformation but the entitlement and superiority complex is what makes me fear for the future. keep in mind these guys will be voting in the next presidential election . the reasoning behind the belief of some was rather reasonable as it was concern over terrorists, lawbreakers, etc but overall the opinion was that immigrants come over here and "take OUR jobs" and only come over here "to make more money" (my response to that is "well duh") my peers believe "an American should open an Italian restaurant, not an Italian immigrant" (THOSE WERE THEIR EXACT WORDS ENTIRELY)

This sickens me for many reasons. For one, it shows my generation may have a bigger entitlement complex than from those past, in that they deserve a job more than someone who worked hard enough to immigrate here and give a shot at the American Dream. In addition there seems to be a superiority complex that natural born citizens are higher and more important than those who immigrated here. there also may be a racial undertone but I don't want to go there. It also shows how bad our education system is as they have no clue what they're talking about. I may be reading too much into this but either way, I'm already disappointed in my peers. Please tell me there is reason to believe in my generation again

And this is where I stopped reading. Might want to find a mirror there, oh wise one

ASUG8 wrote:YT, I'd be a little disappointed from the perspective that people have never had so much news, information, disinformation, and op-ed available to them so there's no excuse not to be up on current events if one is so inclined. Some of us went through school pre-internet, pre-CNN/Fox/24 hour news and the most current info you got was a warmed over view from Time, Newsweek, the daily newspaper (old news by today's standards), etc. All that being said, when I was 17-18 yrs old all I cared about was girls, sports, and what I was doing Friday night. You and your peers have the rest of your lives to become cynical and lose trust in the world - when/if your peers go to school they'll likely begin getting exposed to these things, become idealistic or raging liberals for 4+ yrs., get a job and realize that their political views will stabilize somewhere with some real life experience.

In other words, don't get your boxers in a bunch - 18 yr olds' votes won't dramatically impact the next election. Enjoy being 17. :thumb:
Gaffney, SC is probably different than where you grew up  if you've ever driven by I-85 and seen the outlet mall that's basically all we got outside of housing

Meh, don't be scared. Everybody thinks they have some form of entitlement, and everybody has a little superiority complex in them. Otherwise we wouldn't be arguing on political message boards that don't matter. That's what makes this country great. I'm only 21 so I think I can relate to what you think 'cause I thought along the same lines in high school...it's just part of growing up, and the cycle will continue with every "generation."

Don't fret, YT. That was me in my mid-to-late teen years also, and now I'm politically in the same general area that you are in. And I'm not the only one among my peers who is that way.

Before long they will be on their own and taking care of themeslves and realize a lot of the stuff their baby boomer and older gen X parents told them is a bunch of crap. They will realize out that our generation's future is being gradually flushed down the toilet as we speak and that it has nothing to to with gays, jews, mexicans, lib'rals, or any other scapegoats that might be used today.
