LA Cardinal likens Arizona immigration crackdown to Nazis

Post by dbackjon »

LOS ANGELES - Roger Mahony, archbishop of Los Angeles, blasted Arizona's proposed crackdown on illegal immigration, calling it "the country's most retrogressive, mean-spirited and useless anti-immigrant law."

"American people are fair-minded and respectful. I can't imagine Arizonans now reverting to German Nazi and Russian Communist techniques whereby people are required to turn one another in to the authorities on any suspicion of documentation," Mahony wrote on his blog.

The Arizona measure, which has yet to be signed by Republican Gov. Jan Brewer, would require police, if they suspect someone is in the United States illegally, to determine the person's immigration status. Currently, officers can ask about someone's immigration status only if the person is a suspect in another crime. Those who can't prove they are in the U.S. legally face misdemeanor charges.

I didnt waste the time to read the article because its stupid and has nothing to do with OUR problem.

BUT

If they want to compare us to Nazis then fine with me, let them run their cockholsters and explain how we dont gas, shoot and kill any Mexicans once we get them out of here. They can explain how wrong they are later on after we get our PROBLEM under control.

 Quick, say something outrageous to deflect the attention off the Catholic Church's issues.

The Cardinal will be sure to follow up with a blog about how oppressive it is that the Catholic Church is being forced by the "Nazi-like American government" to turn in its child molesters. Or, maybe he will liken his church to the Nazi sympathizers who covered up rapes committed by their own kind.

BTW, since the Catholic Church seems so interested in commenting about the laws of this land, perhaps it is time for the Catholic church to start paying taxes.

What if I have more personalities than that?

Cluck, I'll wager wasn't his intent (deflect attention from the current Catholic issue with priests)... knowing Roger Mahoney, he is so liberal he's pissed off most mainstream American Catholics...and totally alienated conservative Catholics world-wide...so he really feels that way...and doesn't give a damn...:ohno:

He's old school-liberation theology all the way...not really in tune with much outside the SOCAL liberal elites... :coffee:

Besides, his Los Angeles Diocesan constituency may be 50% or more illegal aliens. :ohno:

The Nazi's were socialists. They would have been totally pro-immigration. :coffee:

Hogan, are you implying that Mahony's only influences are SoCal? If you are, that's COMPLETELY wrong. Practically his entire career prior to being appointed Cardinal Archbishop of LA was in Central California. He served many years in the Monterey-Fresno (and later Fresno after a split) Diocese and was Bishop of Stockton for five years before getting the call to LA. He has MUCH more than just SoCal in his background.

Yes, but the liberation theology has been consistent throughout.
