Bad Start or Bad Team?

Post by SunCoastBlueHen »

The Red Sox are in the process of getting the asses handed to them by the Rays. If they do go on to lose this Patriots' Day 11am start, they will have been swept at home by Tampa Bay and will find themselves six games back, only two weeks into the season. Is Boston really that bad or are they just slow getting out of the gate?

I picked them highlight preseason, but they have shown zero reason why i should believe they will finish them.

While I'm not thrilled by the Bosox start...I'm not any where near panic mode yet...

At this time last year, the Yankees were one game above .500...and the Red Sox won the first eight games of the season series...

We know how the season ended...

It's a 162 game season...there is time to make up what has been lost so far...

Now, if this continues through May...that's something different...

History has proven this sort of thing is difficult to come back from. I know 162 games makes for a long season, and 10 games, or even 20 or 30 is not very far into the season. However, there is some statistical evidence that bad teams after 10 games turn out to be bad and good teams after 10 games turn out to be good. I don't have the time or desire to look it up right now, but did the research a few years ago when having debate with a baseball 'tard Cub fan.

Eh, the Phillies were in 4th place in the NL East the past two seasons at this point in the season...

Exactly...on this day last season, the Angels were in last place in the AL West...they won the division by 8 games...

It's too early to panic... :twocents:

Not going to panic yet. Remember that 10 of their 13 games so far have been against 3 of the better teams in baseball. Sure it would be nice to have been better than 2-8 in those games but it will be fine. They will play better against these teams later and they will beat up on the bad teams.

Also they will need to give serious thought to pulling Ortiz sooner rather than later.

yup and the Angels had a near identical record 4-8 vs 4-9. The Sox cant afford to let this keep going though cause the AL East isnt the AL West, but I wont start panicking unless they are still under .500 come mid may.

Nothing from Travis? The whole point of this thread was to poke Travis (figuratively speaking, of course ;) ) and nothing from the great defender of all things Boston. :ohno:

Not panic mode yet for the BoSox, but I'd feel a lot better if it was Baltimore & Toronto pulling away versus the Yankees & Rays.

As much as I hate Boston, you can't count them out at any time really. Now if they're like 10+ games back in mid-May...then we'll talk.

I agree. But Tampa looks to be pretty solid and the Yankees are the Yankees. The Red Sox better not fall too far behind, it may not be easy to catch up.

They need to start hitting with guys in scoring position. In the TB series they had just as many hits as the Rays but were outscored 25-9.
