And the Mets get a baserunner to third for the first time in the game in the top of the 16th, but leave him stranded.

Cardinals bring in their shortstop to pitch.
Makes me think they've almost given up on the game.
But he somehow makes it out of the inning.

Bring back the PED's. Both of these teams need some.

Mets score a run in the 19th, but the Cards tie it up with a 2-out single. The Cards got their leadoff man on the 19th, but he was thrown out trying to steal - with Pujols at the plate!? I don't get that move at all, if he is successful the Mets will walk Pujols. Pujols ends up getting a double and scoring the tying run.

Mets score again in the top of the 20th, Cards coming to bat trailing 2-1.

Not the call I would have made, but LaRussa knows a lot more about baseball than I do.

I think at that point he just wanted the game to be over one way or another. He knows he has a good team that will win its share of games. Why go balls out to win an April game against a non-divisional foe when the consequences could cost you other games in the next few days? That's why he decided to not bring in a starter and continue the good fight when the bullpen was empty. He was conceeding the game by having a position player take the mound.

As it worked out he got lucky and was able to rest the pen because he got great starts by Wainwright and Penny on Sunday and Monday, while the Mets had to make a roster move before the game Sunday to bring in a fresh arm to their pen.

I'm surprised they didn't give Molina the next night off. He basically caught for 28 innings in a day-and-a-half.
Or maybe the position of catcher isn't actually as draining as the TV commentators tried to make it sound. (I wouldn't know, as I've never played that position)

He's the kind of 'roided players. KING.

He's got a lifetime record of 2559-2221, for a whopping .535 winning percentage. Third most wins, but only 7th best winning percentage (among the top 15 in wins)

He's not the "genius" he's made out to be.

has never had the advantage of being in NY or LA

I don't personally care for the man, but it is un deniable that he is a baseball genius
