I hope that every police officer you ever encounter for the rest of your life is a 0.01 percenter. No sh!t. I hope every cop you ever meet reinforces your opinion. It won't happen, by virtue of the fact that they are 0.01 percenters, but a man can hope, right?

The problem with that "0.01 percenters" assertion is that its credibility is undermined by things like that video as well as personal experience. Look at that video. How many cops are in it? Do you have any reason to believe, at all, that the truth would have come out without that video? That guy was going to be charged with attacking police officers. In that scene that isn't "0.01" percent. And it's certainly hard to argue "0.01" percent when the truth came out because a video the police didn't know about was out there.

As far as personal experience goes, you can believe me or not but I can point to my wife. Her brother is a police officer (well, a detective at this point). She used to think I was too harsh. But she's had enough experience now over the years with prick police officers that she has come over to my point of view. Like being harassed by officers at a DUI checkpoint when she wasn't intoxicated, etc.

I think a majority of folks think that most cops are honest and are involved in law enforcement to protect and serve. And that's exactly why that is true of cops...more people think of it as a profession of helping people rather than pushing people around and thus it attracts people who join to do the former.

I've honestly never run into a cop that I felt was a bully...a few of them are a bit thick in the cranium but even those thankfully don't make up too much of the force.

Cleets, you might also consider that someone who has worked in the business for nearly 20 years might have just heard it sooo many times that he has given up trying to convince certain people otherwise. I spent a very long time making sure that people came away from their experiences satisfied with the police services they received. I get tired very quickly of people like JSO who say things like "cops lie". Not a few cops, not some cops, but simply "cops lie". Or, that cops are thugs, etc. It gets very old. Plus, when you consider that for most who stay in law enforcement for a long time, it is less of a job and more like a calling. I would be less bitchy about it if there were something to it, as I have always been one to admit some merit in others' opinions, even though I may be forceful in defending my own.

My actions, as well as every single police report and investigation I have ever been involved in are public record. In addition, so are my disciplinary records. CPD was and still is known for being a tight ship, especially under Reuben Greenberg. Anyone is more than welcome to FOIA all my police reports and disciplinary records to see what it is I might be hiding. I have only a few regrets from my 17 years in LE, and it has nothing to do with any kind of misconduct.

Animal owners take on a certain responsibility (yes, even farmers IMO) to give their animals a minimum level of humane treatment. For the same reason I support free range livestock producers, I disagree with you. But even more so with a companion animal of such high intelligence as a dog. Nevermind the freaking perverted fucking person it would take to screw a dog, no dog wants to have sex with a human. It's unnatural and the dog isn't physically built for it. It's inhumane and that person shouldn't be allowed to own a dog. I'm not going to argue that it should or shouldn't be a crime on a moral stance. It should be a crime the same way beating a dog should be a crime.

My wife has no reluctance at all to disagree with me. She is a very indepdendent person. Her attitude about cops changed because of her experience with cops. They were real jerks to her several times when she was doing nothing wrong. She used to vehemently disagree with me. Her own experience changed her outlook.

The point is that they do lie at times. There is no reason to believe their word carries any more credibiltiy by virtue of the fact that they are cops than anybody else's word. Yet we have a system that, as a practical matter, does that. People do lie. Cops are a subset of people and cops do lie. It is not right for our legal system to include a presumption that they are telling the truth when what they say is at odds with what the defendant said.

Again, it's supposed to be "innocent until proven guilty." That's not what's happening when the system automatically gives more weight to the cop's word than it does to the defendant's word. You're basically saying that the accuser is presumed correct and the accused must somehow prove the accusesr is wrong. I don't see how you can possibly say that is consistent with the "innocent until proven guilty" concept.

A defendant should not HAVE to prove a police officer is lying or inaccurate. The State should have to prove that the police officer is telling the truth and/or accurately relaying the situation.

I had another very attractive cheerleader sister too. But she didn't get into nearly as much trouble with other girls because she could be a real bitch to guys who hit on her whereas the other one was too nice to tell them to **** off.
