The NHL threw their marketing scheme behind Crysby. They absolutely prefer Pissburgh over us, we will get no calls against them.
Can't really blame them, most people who seriously follow the league nowadays live in the great white north.

Flyers are the first team to move on to the next round. :thumb:

I expect the Craps to crush them in five games.

I wasn't aware until very recently that the brackets aren't set for the second round. I had just assumed that the winner of 1-8 would play the winner of 4-5. So I was really looking forward to some Caps/Penguins in the second round. Turns out that highest seed plays the lowest seed available......right? :?

Don't laugh too much. While I think the Craps will beat the Flyers, the Flyers are playing their best hockey of the year. Boucher apparently remembered how to be a goaltender somewhere in the last month, and Pronger is playing like he did five years ago all of a sudden.

On the opposite end, the Caps aren't playing anywhere near their best hockey right now, which has to be scary considering they've scored 17 goals in their last 3 games. If they can get their power play going again (no problem playing on the short-handed side 8-) ) and figure out how to move the puck up in the neutral ice a little more, to go along with their role players stepping up rather effectively so far, I have no doubt they'll take care of the Flyers pretty handily. :thumb: Laugh laugh laugh!

The NHL resets high v low each round.
Some have suggested that the NCAA do the same thing for the basketball tourney. adjusting the brackets accordingly.

Pittsburgh falls behind 0-3 in their game tonight, but comes back to win it in overtime.

This marks the second year in a row that the Penguins:
a) enter the playoffs as the #4 seed
b) take a 3 games to 1 lead in game 4 (on the road) in their first round series
c) lose game 5 at home
d) fall behind 0-3 in game 6 on the road
e) rally back to win that game, thus advancing to the second round.
(last year that same scenario played out in their series against Philly)

WTF are the Crapitals doing?

I'm kinda sorta hoping the Craps pull it out, because I'd rather the Flyers face them than the Pens in Rd 2. I can understand why the rest of you want the Craps to lose though. It's tough to pull for a team led by a Russkie.

It's even tougher to pull for one supported by bandle.

Rd 2 possibilities

#1 Capitals vs #7 Flyers & #6 Bruins vs #4 Penguins

or

#4 Penguins vs #8 Canadiens & #6 Bruins vs #7 Flyers

There is no way Pitt and Phil meet in second round.

93hf might have been mislead by the fact that I had accidently bolded the wrong team in the original post, as I had accidently highlighted Buffalo instead of Boston (though I did have "Boston won series 4-2" below it)

No, I just forgot about the Bruins beating the Sabres. To be brutally honest, I almost forgot the Bruins were in the playoffs. It's not like anyone but Pittsburgh really matters in the east anyway. We all know that TV and the NHL want Cindy Cocksby in the Finals.

I expect the Caps (actually, Craps is probably more accurate right now) to light a fire under their asses and win by a few goals on Wednesday night. They have the talent to do it. But the fact of the matter is that the Habs have been the better team in this series except for about a 150 minute stretch from the latter half of game 2 through game 4. And considering Halak was absolutely playing out of his mind last night for the Habs (53 saves!!!), they are really going to have to step it up big time.

It's not a conspiracy as much as it is a bank deposit. I guess I can't blame them. The NHL will always be a distant fourth place among the four major sports.

What a dogfight out West...

#5 Detroit @ #1San Jose
#3 Vancouver @ #2 Chicago

The Canucks/Hawks rematch is going to be a war. Both teams don't like each other and Vancouver is still pissed Chicago knocked them out last season!

It would be great to see the Wings and the Hawks in the Conference finals.
