Points are meaningless these days with shootouts. Somebody was talking about a franchise record for points... uh, yeah. The 12 extra points for shootout wins...isumatt wrote:at least 100 points

I didn't exactly say that... I just said that comparing points these days with milestones is folly. IMO the point system does need further tweaking...JayJ79 wrote:So you'd rather they go back to having a bunch of ties?89Hen wrote: Points are meaningless these days with shootouts. Regulation or OT win = 3 points
Shootout win = 2 points
OT or Shootout loss = 1 point
Regulation loss = 0
Shootout wins are NOT the equivalent of a regulation or OT win IMO.

I love how the Caps fans are saying the NHL will suffer because "the most profitable and most watched team is gone".
Montreal is #2 in terms of profitability in the NHL. If you include "in terms of profitability and don't suck ass such as Toronto", then they're #1.

And you got that little gem from where, exactly? Anyone who regularly follows the Post's coverage knows there are quite a few teams ahead of us in viewings. Penguins, Rangers, Bruins, and that doesn't even touch the Western or Canadian teams.T-Dog wrote:I love how the Caps fans are saying the NHL will suffer because "the most profitable and most watched team is gone".

Yeah, we blew it again. Fuck off

Re: 2010 NHL Stanley Cup playoffs
Taken these direct quotes from another forum I frequent.
The NHL DOES NOT GET THEIR WISH
------------------------------what more fans
------------------------------But the Caps and the pens are both draws NHL and right now NHL needs draws to their sport
The thought of another Ovie/Crosby series with both guys being blown like mad sickens me.
So yeah, I didn't pull that out of my ass. Some Capitals fans (and ESPN) think they're greatest thing since slice bread yet probably don't know that the Capitals actually made the finals pre-Ovie.so what your say is that you want the NHL to fail right

FWIW, I live here and I haven't heard a single person say that. It's all gloom and doom and every other blogger writing a letter to Leonsis about how to fix the Caps.T-Dog wrote:I love how the Caps fans are saying the NHL will suffer because "the most profitable and most watched team is gone".
http://www.japersrink.com/2010/4/29/145 ... ed-leonsis
Then there's 10,000 others like me who are doing the "I told you so" routine with regards to the way the Caps play (all offense and no defense).
http://www.onfrozenblog.com/2010/04/29/ ... ockey.html
BTW, I've never seen this town so down on sports. However, the worst thing that could happen to the Capitals right now is the Redskins succeed even a little in the fall. The rise of the Caps was perfectly timed with the sinkhole that the Skins, Zards and Nats have fallen in. IF the Skins get on track this fall, the Caps will lose a lot of attention during next year's regular season. It's now ALL about the playoffs for the next couple years. President's Trophys don't mean jack.
