Oil Leak more massive than originally thought

Post by dbackjon »

A massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico that has become far worse than initially thought crept toward the coast Thursday as government officials offered help from the military to prevent a disaster that could destroy fragile marshlands along the shore.
An executive for BP PLC, which operated the oil rig that exploded and sank last week, said on NBC's "Today" that the company would welcome help from the U.S. military.
"We'll take help from anyone," said Doug Suttles, chief operating officer for BP Exploration and Production.
The Coast Guard has urged the company to formally request more resources from the Defense Department. And on Thursday, President Barack Obama has dispatched Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar and Environmental Protection Agency administrator Lisa Jackson had been dispatched to help with the spill.

Oil is 12 miles from shore.

How about we drop 200000 gallons of oil a day in your favorite fishing streams, and over your favorite hunting areas?

Funny, huh?

So you are ok with this?

WHAT A FUCKING HYPOCRITE - you "preach" personal responsibility for the poor, but when one of your corporate butt-buddies FUCKS UP, you think they should not be criticized? You absolve them of responsibility?

Attitudes like you and Grizzas are why this country is so fucked to begin with.

No, I'm not "ok" with it. But you insinuate that BP purposely fucked up the environment while you toole around town in an automobile using up the very service they're providing. Yeah, it sucks the leak happened. I'm pretty sure BP wasn't TRYING to have a rig explode and sink, or do you have intel to the contrary?

You forgot that BP wanted those 11 workers to die also. Dback seems to think that they did.

No, they were not trying, but they have a) downplayed this from the beginning, attacking the government's estimates of the severity (which they now acknowledge as correct), and failed to take appropriate action immediately to have a chance to contain the spill.

There is also question to the system they are using - this type of rig should have redundant safety shut-off mechanisms to prevent the continued flow.

Man, this is going to put a bunch of good fishing guides out of business and affect an area that has been really slamed by storms in the past several years...

... DBack, if it can be proven that BP was negligent in this case and that it wasn't simply an accident then they should pay and pay dearly.

Unfortunately when a huge corporation like this screws up we all pay together because of the ripple effect.

Well, when we have the questions answered I'll skewer them. Until then, my jury is still out.

But the leak still sucks.....then again, it's only Louisiana. :coffee:

When did you know more about drilling for oil and building oil rigs than BP? :coffee:

I hope you don't work with numbers because you just failed the comparison big time. The ocean has a little more water for distribution of said containment than a stream. Just a FYI. :coffee:

The only difference between this spill and a natural crack in the ocean floor is that the natural crack leaks more oil.

This always blaming oil companies for everything is so fu*king old.

"They make too much money"
"They wreck the environment"
"They are war mongers"

You fu*king pussies really need somebody to punch you in the fu*king face.

When you liberal fu*kheads get rid of your cars, never buy energy from oil to heat your homes, never buy anything that comes in plastic, stop using pharmaceuticals and make up etc.....................then and only then do you moron fu*ks have a leg to stand on.

Until then shut the MUTHERFU*K UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We need to just get rid of fu*king people like this.....BANG!!!

Then those whiny never offer any solutions POS would complain about lead.

Leaking Oil Well Lacked Safeguard Device

The oil well spewing crude into the Gulf of Mexico didn't have a remote-control shut-off switch used in two other major oil-producing nations as last-resort protection against underwater spills.

The lack of the device, called an acoustic switch, could amplify concerns over the environmental impact of offshore drilling after the explosion and sinking of the Deepwater Horizon rig, hired by oil giant BP PLC, last week.

So, the next question is how many OTHER platforms don't have that device?
