That didn't take long... First Lawsuit Challenging SB1070

Post by JMU DJ »

Federal lawsuits were filed by the National Coalition of Latino Clergy and Christian Leaders and a Tucson police officer, arguing the law is an unconstitutional intrusion into the federal government's ability to regulate immigration and will lead to racial profiling. The American Civil Liberties Union and Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund, which successfully overturned California's 1994 anti-illegal immigrant ballot initiative Proposition 187, held a raucous news conference outside the state Capitol promising their own effort.

The claims seek an injunction to keep the law, signed last week by Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer, from going into effect this summer.

There isn't a legal argument against the preemption issue. The real question is who has standing to challenge it.

I have a feeling someone is going to have to get arrested or otherwise personally agrieved under this law before a court will rule on.

You know Arizona is doing the right thing when they are getting this treatment from a very select few in this country.

I know where I am going 2 or 3 times this year, they will be getting all of my business. I will golf more and go to the Fiesta Bowl this year instead of the Orange Bowl.

And I have a feeling that every wacko anti-American group in the country is already plotting to create a fake incident.

I am sure the DNC is working on it as we speak, their way of getting elected depends on it.
