The point is insurance companies are going to raise the rates 30% with or without Obamacare. I don't like the health insurance "reform." If you think the health insurance companies ever gave a shit about peoples health, you are wrong. I don't fault them for that, they're in it to make money. AZ has every right to be pissed that now the people are required to buy it, but don't act like the insurance companies haven't been fucking us for years.

Benne, I don't get why you're sticking on a point that NOBODY is arguing with you over.

The thing that is clear now is that the government is mandating this fucking over for everybody. That does seem worse.

Again, I want to know that I in no way was arguing that the Ins. Co.'s are not fucking us over.

Politics as usual. I'm not arguing that it's mandated and people are pissed. So if it will clear up my position I will state that instead of insurance companies doubling their profits, they will be shooting for 5 fold.

I agree with that as well. I just don't think I see a good angle on what Obama and the current Congress has done. This is proof more than any other time I remember in my life of how distracted we are to have all this sweeping hope for a guy that isn't moving us forward. I didn't vote for him or McCain but I really did hope that the country was making a solid choice on this guy but it just doesn't appear so.

Voted for him because he was going to "save" the world?? He gave them a piece of shit healthcare bill that STILL panders to the insurance companies and just makes them shuffle the deck chairs around as to how they're going to make their money....meanwhile the sheeple think he's done this wonderful thing that will save all mankind. Well, except the Muslims, since they're exempted.

Every couple of generations should be penalized with paying for something like this - I'll likely never see a dime from all my FICA dollars faithfully deducted for my working career, but it's for the greater good. My healthcare dollars are increasing because of the boomers retiring and covering those able bodied souls who won't work, but that's for the greater good also. Hopefully the youngsters mentioned won't mind helping pay for my angioplasties in my "golden years" when I'm surviving on what's left of my 401K, greeting people and handing out return stickers at Walmart, eating cat food, and living out back of the store in a lean-to made of grill parts and refrigerator boxes. I'm just here to be a cog on a gear in the machine.

Semi-retirement sounds really appealing. ;)

Benne, I am not a huge fan of the insurance companies but there is no way they raise rates 30% on younger people without Obamacare. It just doesn't make business sense to raise rates on a low risk group of people who could probably go without your service if need be. Now raising rates on people that do need it.....sure but maybe that wouldn't have had to happen if the idiots in DC had actually given us a bill that reduces health care costs.

AZ is right, younger people were played as fools by Obama. I know a few people that are already very much regretting their decision to vote for the guy.

Exactly. If insurance companies know that people have to buy insurance they are going to jack the rates up to make money knowing that the people have no choice but to pay for it.

I think you misread him btk. He is saying that without Ocare the ins. co's would not have raised those rates knowing that those people would probably opt out if the rate was too high. Knowing that they can no longer opt out the insurance co's feel pretty safe that they will have a market to sell to. At least that's how I read it.

Poop. I did misread it; rather I stopped reading when I got to the part I bolded. It still makes my point.

Yeah that is exactly what I was saying. Benne kept on saying everyone's health insurance was going up 30% no matter what, which just didn't make sense.

No. They'll get insurance from the co-ops if the health insurance companies jack prices up too much. Private insurance will have more competition than they've had (close to zero competition in some states).

Shit, I remember Blue Cross and Blue Shield going up between 15% and 30% a year, for ten straight years.

Remember the reason too, "health care costs are going up, and somebody's got to pay for it"

Not sure what company you're getting your health care insurance from, but I've been the chief negotiator for our coverages for the past 11 years and I've not seen a single increase larger than 11%, and most were in single digits. 11% is still to high, but continually throwing out 30% a year like it's gospel just weakens your already ridiculously tenuous argument.

It's going there HD. 8-10 yrs. of people getting used to the intrusion in their lives and they will be clamoring for insurance reform in the form of single payer. FWIW I don't agree with Government having shit to do with this and forcing it on the citizens but if they are gonna force it on the citizens then the single payer is the way to go. Right now I think we have the worst option of them all.

Still won't solve the problem of how to afford the best of evertything medically. Our problem is we want the best of everything and we want to be able to get it at a moment's notice. Need a knee replacement surgery? I want it tomorrow. Need to see a doctor? I want an appointment tomorrow. Need the newest and most cutting edge medicine? I want a prescription today and someone else to foot the bill. Need some exotic test run? I want it done tomorrow with the best equipment possible. Single payer does nothing to curb that. Of course, if single payer morphs into a system where services are curtailed or rationed, as some things probably truly need to be, well, that's something that could work. But single payer, by itself, will do nothing to curb the exploding costs of health care.
