Maybe you were right...in your area of the world at your time in that world. But don't assume the world hasn't changed. Your thinking is, as someone else said, similar to a person in New York saying he knows what the immigration situation is like in Arizona.
Your life, as you stated, is all you care about. You don't care about the dude in Appalachia, Atlanta, Athens, the white working class person, the undocumented immigrant worker who you pay pennies on the dollar...there really isn't anyone (or any law, since you would hire an undocumented worker) else besides yourself that you care about...save perhaps a few people who you fit in to your life. Congrats, I get whacked by some liberal neighbors for saying the same thing.
However, what I was addressing is how it is OK for only one class to be singled out for criticism...based on their gender and race. It's bullshit...plain and simple.

We're arguing different arguments here. I understand all that you are saying and don't necessarily think you are wrong, but the fact remains that if you are white, work hard, and play the game, you have a better percentage chance of success than a similarly placed black or latino. They may get the token promotion, but they will pretty quickly smack that glass ceiling. Just the way it is. As for the lower and middle classes, like I said, they are just fodder for the mill. Fuel, made to be burned up and used to create wealth for the upper classes. Freedom for the working man is nothing more than a myth. An illusion created to keep them from recognizing the ultimate futility of their existence. Wake up, work, collect a check, pay it all out, go to bed, wake up and do it all over again. Maybe if he's lucky, his kid won't be a schmoe like him, and will actually move up the ecomomic ladder to a better life, but that's not statistically likely. Really never has been. And that has nothing to do with the opportunity built in the system, but the fact that the genetic predisposition to be a fuck up is pretty universally passed on to offspring. And that shit is true no matter what part of the country you live in.
Actually, I was playing devil's advocate a bit there. The "I" in my post refers to my class mainly. I'm what would be considered lower to middle upper class. And I'm only half "white". But I pass for a good old WASP. Go back three generations on my father's side and you get a dirt poor share-cropper from SE Georgia who never even owned the house he lived in or a piece of land. I am where I am because of a combination of hard work, good genetics, luck, and the inherent advantages of being a straight white male in the United States, particularly the Southeastern United States.
But I admit that I have participated fully in and benefited greatly from the system of which I speak. In my younger more idealistic days, I was a full on socialist. To borrow someone elses words, I think it might have been illegal to be more left than me. But that shit died a long time ago. The system is what it is. I can't change it, neither can you, or Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi, or the TEA party. How's the old saying go, if you aren't a liberal at 20 you have no heart, if you aren't a conservative by 40 you have no brains?

And I am speaking strictly fiscally. The religious right can suck a nut.
Dear lord... please allow this dangerous combination of hair spary, bat slobber, and D.O.T. four automatic transmission fluid to excite my mind, occupy my spirits, and enrage my body, provoking me to kick any man or woman in the back of the head regardless of what he or she has or has not done unto me. All my Best, Earlie Cuyler.
