Col Hagan,

Did we mention Higgins had 300+ yds passing and 3 TD's and 0 INT's against #10 Utah in the BCS Rankings?

I would assume that is proving he can hang with FCS teams.

How about we see what both do this week, see what Landers and Higgins do.

Higgins did play a NAIA and a DII but also 2 FBS, Landers played 1 FBS.

Again, I agree...let's wait and see...one of them could have a monster game...one of them might come out flat...

Just saying...if I had a vote...and the vote was today...JMU's Landers would get my vote...

Personally, I would prefer to see Cam win the award as a junior or senior (maybe both!), because it might be better for the team.

For now, I think Weber needs to keep their eyes on the prize ... and it AIN'T the Walter Payton award!

Weber sure has stepped it up this season...

However, did anyone seen that QB for Appalachian St. last night? I think he is a future winner...

No, not that one, the other one...

2 games left for Weber including a bye week.

On Sat, Cam Higgins threw for 242 yds passing and 1 TD

On the season, 3127 yds passing, 30 TD's, 8 INT's. Rating 173.38.

Looks like it will take the post season to get to 4,000 yds passing. But I wont be surprised if he has 40 TD's before the season's end since Idaho State is the next game.

OK, as an Appalachian alum I'm obviously biased, but I think Armanti Edwards has got to be hands down the pick for the Payton this year (and maybe next....we'll see). He's at the top of the stats charts in most categories, and that's while teams are redesiging defenses specifically to stop HIM. Friday against Wofford, he laid to rest any ideas that he's just a running QB. He's proven himself to be a winner ever since he first stepped on the field in 2006. I don't know what else a player has to accomplish to win this award.

Honest question. If Armanti becomes the only Division I QB to pass for over 2000 yards and run for over 1000, will/ should he win the Payton Award? I would think so. He is now the all time yards leader in SoCon history, half way through his Jr. year (that includes not starting 3 games his freshman year and missing 3½ games last season). I don't see, if he can accomplish that feat, how he doesn't win. That's my biased and unbiased opinion. :)

Well, I guess we'll never know that, will we? There's no doubt that Armanti gives App a huge advantage. Of course, that's why I think he should get the Walter Payton award. It's an individual award, correct? If a single player makes enough difference to single handedly (your implication) win two NC's shouldn't he be recognized?

For the record, in 2006 & 2007 App had the Trey Elder who happened to be the pre-season all SoCon QB. We beat JMU that year with Trey. As a matter of fact, Trey has an exceptionally high winning percentage in the games he started....including the NAU game in 2007. Our two losses in 2007 were actually due to Armanti attempting to come back too soon from injury when he wasn't yet 100%. This year we have DeAndre Presley...a name that you will learn very well once Armanti graduates.

What would Weber State's record be this year without your starting QB? Does it matter in this discussion?

For the record, Armanti played about one minute in the 4th qtr against Wofford. DeAndre Presley played the rest of the game. DeAndre has gotten quite a bit of playing time this year.

first post but frequent lurker. AE was 17-19 for 367 with 5 TD's and no picks against Wofford. 1 ball was intentionally thrown high and out of bounds, one ball was dropped. his passer rating for the game (Wofford) was an astounding 338.57. EPSN projects his season ending rating will be 175 besting the alltime FCS rating by over 10 points. he has thrown only 2 picks this year and none in his last 140 attempts. and DeAndre Pressley is more of the same on a bigger frame. just my 2 cents worth, keep the change. ;)

I've seen Lander play more than once this year, and up until the Wofford game, I felt he could/should win the award this year...

I must admit that after watching AE against Wofford, I must accept that he, not Landers, is the front-runner for the award...

Huh? Where do you get that record? The single season record (w/ at least 15 att. per game) is 204.6 by Shawn Knight of W&M in 1993. Not to mention that Edwards is only 3rd. in passing efficiency this season behind Jonathan Dally & Cole Bergquist.

Cam Higgins has 1 game left.

He is still leading the nation in passing yards and TD's by a long ways.

Since you brought it up I would just like to say Trev Smith WSU running back and wide receiver Tim Toone both have stats as good or better than some of the candidates on the list...

Can we put 3 WSU players on the list? lol

Forget all this. In my mind, the Payton goes to Cole Bergquist, pure and simple.
