Well they probably are getting the vast majority of the Catholic Hispanics on the abortion issue alone. Hispanics Catholics are some of the most devot Catholics around. And its a safe bet that most Mexicans are Catholics.AZGrizFan wrote:Which is funny, because they (Republicans) probably aren't getting 21% of the Hispanic vote anyway.danefan wrote:

With the Senate beginning its debate on Sonia Sotomayor's Supreme Court nomination today, it's worth pointing out how stable Obama's support among Latinos has been since he became president -- even with his poll numbers falling back to earth.
In the Feb.-March NBC/WSJ poll, Obama's approval among Latinos was at 67%; in April it was 76%; in June it was 71%, and July it was 66%. These percentages are consistent with the exit polls from November, which showed Obama getting 67% of the Latino vote.

I've met a few illegal immigrants when I worked shitty jobs in high school and can say its not "easy" to spot one. I've also met a few cops who are racist. Fact is the law will be abused unless there are good checks and balances in place.
The law has great intentions but will need to be tweaked to work. AZ and other border states are suffering big time due to increased drug related problems along the border and something needs to be done.

Our immigration problem is bigger than racially profiling a few people.
I really dont care if we do profile or not, its worth it for awhile to get things under control.

It's easy to understand why Mexico President Felipe Calderon spoke out against Arizona's new immigration law, if you follow the money.
Illegal immigrants in America send roughly $1 billion in untaxed U.S. dollars a month back to Mexico. Without this money, Mexico would collapse. Oh wait a minute, Mexico is collapsed, which is why Mexico is worse off than Detroit and that Mexicans want to get the hell out of Mexico.
What is ironic is that Mexico enforces the same basic immigration law on its Southern border with Guatemala as Arizona's new immigration law, which few in the Obama Administration have actually read, but are vehemently opposed to even though Arizona's immigration law is actually not as stringent as the federal government's immigration law which no one in Obama Administration wants to enforce.
The reason the Obama Administration does not want to enforce our immigration laws is that they want to make Democratic slaves (voters) of these illegal immigrants by granting them amnesty. When President Calderon addressed Congress and condemned Arizona's immigration law, the Democrats stood and applauded. Watching that ugly spectacle was a sad and embarrassing moment for America.
Unlike the Obama Administration and the Democrats in Congress, the majority of Americans support Arizona's new law and believe illegal immigration is a problem that will not be solved by granting millions of illegals undeserved legal status. Just like healthcare reform, the Obama Administration is once again grossly out-of-step with logic and the American people as it pertains to illegal immigration.
Reasonable people can debate what to do about immigration, but what is an undeniable truth is that illegal immigration is wreaking financial havoc on the American healthcare system, already bloated and wasteful social welfare programs and criminal justice systems in border states, and, as always, the American taxpayers are getting stuck with this very expensive bill.
Sticking American taxpayers with the bill for illegal immigration because Fedzilla (the federal government) does not want to enforce our immigration laws is condemnable and arrogant. Don't forget this when you enter the voting booth this November and forever more.
If we can put a man on the moon we can surely stop the invasion of illegal immigrants pouring across our porous border. What our federal government lacks is the political will to stop the invasion.
Make no mistake, we have been invaded by 10 million to 15 million illegals and we have virtually done nothing to stop it. And we are a supposedly a nation that believes in the rule of law? Yeah, and I play lead banjo in a Hee Haw documentary.
Just because there are people such as myself who believe we should enforce our immigration laws and who support Arizona's immigration law does not make us racists or jingoists as some racists and jingoists try to portray us to be. Attempting to smear someone as being racist when they are not is real and vicious racism on parade for everyone to witness.
I have no problem whatsoever with the Mexican people. My phenomenal bass player, Marco Mendoza, is Mexican. Like Marco and everyone who craves the American Dream, if I lived in Mexico I would do whatever I could to escape that Third World hell-hole to provide a better life for my family. But I'm not a Mexican. I'm an American.
What I take umbrage with are those who believe we should open our borders and virtually allow anyone in America. If you want more illegals in America, just provide the ones already here with legal status. Wrong approach.
Not only does illegal immigration tremendously impact our social services, but I also believe, and statistics prove, that our porous Southern border is an open invitation for any terrorist punk to walk into America carrying a chemical, biological or other weapon of mass destruction.
Fedzilla has one primary responsibility to the American people: Protect our borders and keep our people safe. So far, so bad. It is time for we the people to raise a new level of hell, demanding our government perform its duties and take whatever means necessary to stop the invasion. Fences, National Guard and orders to halt the law breakers. Now would be a good time.

Had to laugh when I read this (was in this weekend's WSJ)...read my note at the end.
Calif. island lands in storm of immigration debate
By ELLIOT SPAGAT (AP)
http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/art ... QD9G9VKG81
Coincidentally, one of my former business partners inherited an "apartment" on the island...really was a ten room slum-tenancy that was a third-generation property (purchasing land, WITH WATER AND SEWER RIGHTS on Catalina is virtually impossible...I've heard there's a 15-20 year waiting list to acquire water rights), that eventually got condemned. For years, the apartment housed illegals (4-6 per room) who were employed by the hotels and local residents for housekeeping. When the property fell into disrepair, my business partner figured the locals wouldn't pester him as the apartments supported the immigrant workers they "needed". He hadn't figured on messing with L.A. County, jurisdictionally controlling code enforcement. L.A. Co. rolled over the top of him (and his lawyer), and in 10 days the apartment was gone. From any other viewpoint, one would say "Good Riddance", however the City of Avalon took him to court to pay for the relocation of the tenants TO ANOTHER RESIDENCE ON AVALON...all of which were ridiculously expensive. Last I spoke with him, he was still fighting the City many years later.AVALON, Calif. — An island off the Los Angeles coast reluctantly finds itself in the middle of an international tussle over illegal immigration, and some leaders are blaming their own congressman for putting them there.
Rep. Dana Rohrabacher flew by helicopter to Santa Catalina Island earlier this month to confront a Mexican official who was handing out identity cards that nationals use in the U.S. to open bank accounts and cash checks. The GOP congressman said the IDs only help illegal immigrants establish a foothold in the U.S.
Many island residents saw his visit as grandstanding, portraying their community as a haven for illegal immigrants and unnecessarily drawing them into a raging immigration debate that could harm their tourist-dependent economy.
"Are there illegals on Catalina? Yes, there are illegals everywhere in the country. I don't think we're different than any other community," said Wayne Griffin, president of the Catalina Island Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau.
"Don't grandstand on our island and somehow make us part of the problem," he said.
Business leaders say they've received e-mails since the visit from people upset about the IDs and threatening to take their business elsewhere because the Mexican consulate event was held on the island 22 miles from the mainland.
The controversy erupted as the island's businesses hoped to draw attention to a $13 million facelift, with new attractions including a zip line that carries riders from 600 feet above sea level to the beach.
Rohrabacher acknowledged their concerns, agreeing that immigration was a federal responsibility, not theirs.
His visit was the latest episode in a long-running debate over the IDs. Mexico has issued more than 7.2 million cards in the U.S. since 2002 through a network of 50 consulates that includes outposts in Boise, Idaho, Juneau, Alaska and Little Rock, Ark.
Mexican officials say the IDs, valid for five years, are also used by Mexicans who are in the U.S. legally.
"The main objective is to provide our citizens with an ID card here, whatever they need it for," said Ricardo Alday, spokesman for the Mexican Embassy in Washington. "It's better for everyone to know who they are and where they live."
The Orange County congressman, who is seeking a 12th term in a safely Republican district, said the IDs made it easier for illegal immigrants to live in the U.S. and the program contradicted long-term strategy to combat illegal immigration.
"The idea that we are making it more comfortable for illegals to be here ... it's wrong," he said.
Rohrabacher said he learned about the Los Angeles consulate's June 3 visit a day or two before from constituents.
Flyers posted in Avalon, a town of about 4,000 people, advertised the consular event scheduled to be held at the Catalina Visitors Country Club, where the consulate held the same event in 2008 without controversy.
Brad Wilson, chief marketing officer for Santa Catalina Island Co., owner of the country club, got a call from a Rohrabacher aide the day before the event asking if he knew he was aiding and abetting illegal immigrants.
The congressman then sent a letter that suggested Mexico needed State Department clearance and that the city and country club were "unwitting participants" in a program to help illegal immigrants.
Taken aback, Wilson withdrew the invitation just as consular officials were unloading computers and printers from a ferry boat. The city's Catholic church offered a room to rescue the event.
Rohrabacher later conceded that State Department approval was unnecessary, saying his staff didn't have time to research the question before the event.
After his helicopter landed, he expounded on illegal immigration over breakfast with city officials and then walked a few blocks to church to confront Juan Carlos Mendoza, Mexico's deputy consul general in Los Angeles, face to face.
"We agreed that this would be decided between Mexico City and Washington," Mendoza said.
Consular officials said they issued 44 ID cards and 60 passports before they left.
The episode has left a bitter aftertaste on the island, where some Mexican families trace their ancestors' arrival to the era of William Wrigley Jr., the chewing gum magnate who bought the island in 1919 and brought his Chicago Cubs for spring training.
Today, Avalon is a sleepy town where there's a large supermarket, post office and movie theater. On many mornings, about a dozen Mexican day laborers gather outside a market looking for work.
Locals say there was a big influx of illegal immigrants more than 20 years ago when cruise ships transformed the island from a summer to a year-round economy.
Mayor Bob Kennedy estimates about half the population is Latino — up to 70 percent in the public school — but there are few signs of division. Latinos and whites live on the same narrow streets.
"Really, this whole community acts as one," said Kennedy, a scuba-shop owner who backed the consular visit. "That's why we support this. They're providing services to this city. Legal or not, they're residing in our community."
Bottomline, like ngineer points out...
...this is a supply and demand issue. Though some of the folks who complain the most about illegals, are the first to seek them out when hiring day laborers or housekeepers.

+1...ngineer wrote:Crack down on the illegal hiring by employers of the illegal immigrants and the problem goes away real quick. But noooooooooooooooooooo, that radical left wing group the US Chamber of Commerce stands four square against such 'reforms'.
Also agree with T-Man...love the hipocrites who scream against illegals...but quietly hire them...
