You talking about that SAME group? Or the NEW 18-29 Y/O's?Skjellyfetti wrote:Anyone want to wager on how the 18-29 age group votes in 2012?
Because I don't see any way the SAME group votes for Obama in the kind of numbers you stated in your first post on this thread. The NEW ones, yeah, they'll be as stupid and naive as the current ones and will believe anything the snake-oil salesman tells 'em.

Sure you do. 53% of the voters in this country are apparently single issue. That's who voted for Obama.89Hen wrote:For what? I don't know too many single issue voters.Skjellyfetti wrote:Anyone want to wager on how the 18-29 age group votes in 2012?

We all know who the majority in that age bracket will vote for..... but consider this: That the younger generation is liberal and still more pro-life than previous generations is just yet more proof that what the pro-abortion crazies say about the pro-life movement (that they are a bunch of ultra-misogynist "anti-choice" religious extremists) is red-hot stinking crock sh^t.Skjellyfetti wrote:Anyone want to wager on how the 18-29 age group votes in 2012?
The two biggest civil rights movements in this century are going to be those for gays/lesbians, and the unborn. Younger Americans are also more liberal on the gay issues, btw.

A lot of infants think that Playdough and the contents of their diapers are food products, but that's because they don't know any better.
I'm not saying all of the 18-29 group are idiots or raging liberals, but they haven't had the pleasure of watching that nice post graduate offer suddenly become a dramatically lesser amount due to the freespending ways of government. Spend a few years paying taxes and and watching how broken the government machine is and you'll likely become a fan of watching the government be a bit more pragmatic with it's spending of your dollars.
IMHO, many people generally tend to get more conservative as they age as they gather more real life experience. I'm pro choice, mainly because I don't advocate abortion as a birth control method but if my wife were to get raped by a bunch of gang members I'd certainly like the option of NOT raising a rapists' kid. At the same time, I expect to have police and fire protection, trash collection, national defense, highways/insfrastructure and other basic necessities - I have no problem doing my part to fund them. But I don't need government tentacles impacting personal rights.

Absolutely, I will never underestimate the stupidity of young voting age adults, but I'll wager that it will be much closer to 50/50 in 2012 than it was in 2008.Skjellyfetti wrote:Anyone want to wager on how the 18-29 age group votes in 2012?

or how about a choice for making elective abortions for no other reason than birth control illegal, but allowing them in cases of rape/incest/medical necessity.93henfan wrote:Did the poll allow for a response from people who are personally pro-life but don't believe in getting all up in everyone else's business, bombing clinics, or gunning down doctors in church to impose their beliefs on everyone else?
Re: Younger Americans More Pro-Life
Hell no! It makes things way too complicated for those that like everything black and white. How are you going to put nuance into a soundbite? Thinking takes too much time.OSBF wrote:or how about a choice for making elective abortions for no other reason than birth control illegal, but allowing them in cases of rape/incest/medical necessity.93henfan wrote:Did the poll allow for a response from people who are personally pro-life but don't believe in getting all up in everyone else's business, bombing clinics, or gunning down doctors in church to impose their beliefs on everyone else?

Re: Younger Americans More Pro-Life
Analyzing in detail a small percent increase like this concerning young people and their views is kinda pointless. It's pretty easy to influence a younger person than an older one, and their standing on hot topics shift around a lot. I see it in myself and my friends all the time, from one year to the next.
And anyways, if I read the link correctly, more younger Americans are still pro-choice than pro-life.

What KY, you just like to pick out the things you take issue with?
Read the whole post again, slowly this time - I said IMO many people become more conservative perspective. I happen to be pro-choice, not all Americans. I know I'm a lot more conservative than I was in college, although I'm a fiscal conservative/social moderate (so don't go lumping in with the extreme right).
And maybe you enjoy paying taxes, and I have no idea about raising kids since I have none. Do you work/pay taxes or have kids? Maybe you can offer some objective perspective on that.
