Tide is Turning In Favor of Arizona Immigration Law

It's become clear, however, that most Americans see this principally as a law-enforcement issue. A steady stream of national polls consistently show the same thing: A solid majority of Americans (usually around 60 percent) believe that local law enforcement should be doing the kind of things the Arizona law provides. Moreover, a solid majority of Americans also believe that Arizona was right to take action on its own, rather than wait for the federal government.

That changes the game. It's easy for critics to depict a small state as a bunch of racist rubes. Harder to do that for the entire country.
• Attorney General Eric Holder's admission, in a House committee hearing, that he hasn't read the Arizona law is also likely to be a turning point.

Holder has denounced the Arizona law. He has said that the federal government would be closely watching its implementation and will consider suing to keep it from going into effect. All without actually reading the bill.

Holder's admission was both breathtaking and unsurprising.
Get used to it, donks. This bill ain't going anywhere.

And what on EARTH would possess Holder to think he actually needed to READ the bill to condemn it? Obama's congress has been passing bills for 18 months without reading them....Holder learned from the masters.

Must every douchebag Arizona Republican lament McCain's defeat in EVERY article. Pathetic. The dude sounds like AZ. :ohno:
I sometimes wonder how much different 2008 might have been if McCain had stuck with his anti-bailout instincts rather than succumbing to the apocalyptic warnings of Bush Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson and Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke.

This is simply a case of the public becoming more educated about the bill and what it entails.

When the bill first passed the left was successful- with the aid of their lapdog media- in demonizing the bill and lying about its intent and how it would be enforced. As more and more of those lies have been refuted the public has become more educated about the truth and tenets of the bill and public opinion has swung away from the knee jerk spin and lies perpetrated by the illegal immigrant lobby and its misinformation and spin machine.

This is not surprising at all...

The only place where the illegal immigration lobby has a slight edge in the polls is California, 48% to 44%. The rest of the country favors the bill 2 to 1, especially in the mid-term "battleground" states, and 70% of 'Zoners still favor the bill.

This could change, however, as the left coast fruits and nuts begin to understand that they have been lied to by the illegal alien lobby.

The previous administration was not a conk administration, especially on the issue of illegal immigration. With a few notable policy and personnel exceptions, they were donk lite RINOs. The country was fvcked up under Bush not because he pursued conservative solutions, but because he FAILED to do so. Obama has merely doubled down on Bush's stupidity and willfully poured fuel on the flames of economic and societal destruction.

I'm not going to say there aren't any wacko, fringe organizations out there... but, the ones that are certainly have little influence or clout. The largest Hispanic advocacy and immigration reform organizations I'm aware of are not in favor of illegal immigration.

But, can I assume you heard that on Glenn Beck or somewhere similar?

Fans asked to remove pro-Arizona immigration law shirts during NBA game
dailycaller.com ^ | May 17, 2010 | Alex Pappas

Two fans at a Phoenix Suns basketball game were ejected from their first row seats and removed from the arena last week after refusing orders from security guards to take off their shirts in support of Arizona’s recently passed law against illegal immigration.

One of the fans, businessman Jim Clark, said he and a friend, who were wearing orange shirts that read “Viva Los 1070,” eventually were allowed to return to their seats during last Wednesday’s game against the San Antonio Spurs after speaking with a security director.

This is not the first occurrence of politics creeping into the Suns basketball games: On Cinco de Mayo, team owner Robert Sarver came up with the idea for the team to wear “Los Suns” on their jerseys in protest of the immigration law. That’s what drove Clark to don his own shirt.

“If they’re going to shove their politics down my throat, I’m going make a message of my own,” Clark told The Daily Caller.

The phrase “Viva Los 1070” is in reference to the recently passed Arizona immigration law, Senate Bill 1070.
Clark said it is his understanding that it was TNT, which was broadcasting the game, that first suggested they remove their shirts because their front row seats were visible on camera.

That's pretty interesting... I don't know about Phoenix but in Orlando you ain't sitting there for less than $300. Hell, my seats are 11 rows back and I pay $150. Not only that but in Orlando those seats aren't sold ala carte, only as season tix. Sumthin' tells me there aren't too many illegal aliens shelling out $150-$300+ for hoops games... The Suns might want to think before pissing off their season tix holders, that ain't good business.

These anti-1070 folk are turning up the heat, and trying to hold professional sports hostage. Yahoo! is reporting that they tried to force Phil Jackson to come out on their side and get the Lake Show to wear "Los Lakers" jersey's as they've done in the past to support the Latino community. Jackson and the Lakers organization rightly refuse to be baited into a political free-for-all.

I don't know enough about the law itself to have an informed opinion. But I think this effort to hold sports hostage is despicable and should be stopped. So you don't like it? Focus on the courts. Don't try to jam your opinion down the throats of athletes who are just playing a game. This is the one mistake I believe my man Jimmy made: leave sports out of politics!!!

I heard it from my own police chief and City Council, douchebag.

NCLR, MAPA and Chicanos Por La Causa support illegal immigration. Which "major" Hispanic organizations "oppose" illegal immigration, skelly?

Any person or group which opposes enforcement of the law is, by definition, in favor of illegal immigration.

Two officers are challenging the law in court, while police unions that lobbied for it are defending it against criticism from police officials.

Both sides are debating how a law such as Arizona's can be enforced, without leading to racial profiling of Hispanics and without alienating residents in Hispanic neighborhoods with whom police have spent years trying to build trust.

"Before the signing of this bill, citizens would wave at me," said David Salgado, a 19-year Phoenix police officer who sued the city and the governor asking that the law be blocked. "Now they don't even want to make eye contact."

Several Arizona police chiefs and sheriffs say, as hard as officers try not to profile, enforcing the law will inevitably lead to it. They say it will end up taking time away from solving crimes in their cities and towns.

"When you get a law that leads a state down this path, where the enforcement is targeted to a particular segment of the population, it's very difficult not to profile," said Phoenix Police Chief Jack Harris, a critic of the law.

On Monday, police bosses from Maryland and Nevada condemned the law, saying that it could suck up vital resources and destroy delicate relationships with immigrant communities if implemented in their own states. There are at least nine other states considering similar legislation.

Police Chief Thomas Manger of Montgomery County, Md., in suburban Washington said he doesn't have the resources or the desire to enforce federal immigration violations by people who aren't disrupting the community.

"If they're not committing a crime here, frankly, I'm not sure how it enhances public safety to target those people for removal," he said

Bullsh!t!!! This is the race-baiting illegal alien lobby crying "wolf"

Senate Bill 1070 essentially applies the proven federal 287g program statewide across Arizona. In its decade and a half of existence nationwide, there have been no verified cases of racial profiling among participating 287g law enforcement agencies. Moreover, there has been a demonstrable decrease in crime and no "chilling effect" among the immigrant populations of participating municipalities.

http://www.cis.org/287greport" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

There may be illegal aliens afraid to wave at Officer Salgado, but I doubt that a single CITIZEN is afraid to look him in the eye. If anyone is to blame for immigrant fear of law enforcement it's the hyper-political, hysterical and dishonest illegal alien lobby.
