FCS COACH OF THE YEAR NOMINATION: ED LAMB
At his first year of the helm Ed Lamb has clearly turned this program around and i am proud to say that i am proud to be a fan of Southern Utah. Last year we went winless and the year before i think we only just one or two games. In one year Ed Lamb has already turned us into contenders in the Great West after two close 1st halfs against Cal Poly and UC Davis, and our first ever road win in the great west conference i believe it. Not to mention we are only 1 play away from upsetting then ranked NAU. I doubt that he will win but i think he at least deserves to have his nameup there. This accompanied by planned renovations for the Thunderbirds field (supposedly were finally getting spineturf and a video scoreboard) shows me a great future for the SUU program and if rumors on Egriz are true...a possible bid into the Big Sky Conference because lets face it im pretty sure SUU could compete with alot of teams in that conference, and i think a Weber vs. SUU Rivalry game would be awsome, could turn into a North vs South game that could become another great in state rivalry.

I agree. Though I think the Weber St coach deserves some props too. SUU played well in most of their losses last year so I expected competition form them this year. Can't say I'm happy y'all beat Texas St again but y'all are improving.

Let's not forget Dale Lennon at SIU. Hired last December, missed a recruiting season, brought in a completely different system to kids he didn't recruit, sits in first place in the MVC and controls his own destiny for the AQ, and has improved each week. No small feat.

If we're tossing out possible nominees, I'd have to add Coach Jimmye Laycock at William and Mary...
Last year that program really went nowhere (4 - 7 overall, 2 - 6 CAA)...this year, he's turned it around and may make the playoffs...

How about Andy Talley? Villanova was such an underrated team this year and Talley has turned them into a real contender for the national title. And he has 98 wins as of this weekend - a CAA record. Did anyone notice Nova's penalty-less game this weekend? One more sign of good coaching.

Re: FCS COACH OF THE YEAR NOMINATION: ED LAMB
I nominate Weber State's head coach, Ron McBride.
WSU just one its first Big Sky Championship (on Saturday) in 40 years. An outright title is still pending, but this likely will go down as the greatest season in WSU history.
In 1987 WSU won 10 games and one a 1st rd playoff game. Currently WSU is 9-2 with 1 regular season game to go and 7-0 in FCS.
What McBride is doing for Weber is pretty unbelievable considering WSU has the smallest budget in the conference and has never had an outright Big Sky title in its 47 yr history. Also, WSU has 3 players that could easily be on the Walter Payton watch. Trevyn Smith and Tim Toone's stats are as good or better than some of the guys on the list. Of course Cam Higgins in already on the list and leading the nation in passing yds and TD's.

Welcome and good first post.
I think the only way Talley gets into the final 2 or 3 is if he makes a good playoff run. He did surprise a lot of people this year and has really put a quality product onto the field.

Actually Tbird it's called sprint turf. I agree with you that your new coach has done a heck of a job and the stadium upgrades are gonna be great for yiour team. If you guys are gonna get something going in Cedar City though your community is gonna have to start supporting the product and gain an interest in FCS football. If there is a bar there in Cedar City that does have the sports angle then it might help if they could show some games and so forth or at least not act like your causing a problem when you want to watch a gmae that is on regional TV.SUUTbird wrote:sorry i think its either called that or spinturff...whatever NAU and the Griz got
I am very happy to see that you guys are making a climb back up and the program has some life to it. All the other coaches that were mentioned are legit candidates as well.

Re: FCS COACH OF THE YEAR NOMINATION: ED LAMB
i have to agree, every coach mentioned is a worthy canidate, especially Mac at Webere State. I just think Ed Lambs name should be up there because of the programs turnaround, in a few years i can see SUU as a liable threat, especially running the now popular Urban Meyer Spread Offense...i think every school is running at least a variation of it now here.
