Ruined our economy
Ruined the world economy
Created Sarah Palin
Ruled during an era of rampant corporate corruption
Ruined our environment by not keeping a closer eye on oil companies
Lit the constitution on fire with the Faith Based initiatives BS
Grew the Federal Government to alarming proportions
Alienated the rest of the world, except England, Cameroon and Poland
Elected W - twice
Fell asleep on securing our borders
Failed to do anything about SS and MC and MA
Done nothing for the last two years except complain and cry like fucking pussies.
Fuck, I could go on forever - what a bunch of corrupt fools....

I'm not sure if it's their blunder or not focusing on their core values (which they are doing) versus the idea that those who oppose those core values and what that could mean to their own political power are doing a better job of painting the movement as only that of, as you say, "racists and homophobes". The ones who see the movement as just that are more likely the ones already opposed to the core values they are trying to ignore.
