A GOHENS Sampler- The Best of "Cluck U" (Almost)
Re: Parade All America Linebacker Transfer
Guess I'm going to have to just put up with guys making stuff up about previous GoHens discussions since the archives of that site are temporarily lost.
My position on District XI PA football is simply that , as other posters have detailed, it is one of the three best recruiting areas in the state....and UD has virtually ignored the area. In fact, KC Keeler is a product of District XI having graduated from Emmaus...not a District XI power.
District One's reputation is founded largely on Central Bucks West High School which had an amazing run winning five or six Class AAAA state championships in a row.
District seven....as has been pointed out... has produced legends...don't forget Joe Namath, Joe Montana, and Jim Kelly among the QB talent. Terrell Pryor is a District VII kid....only lost one game in high school....to Wilson (near Easton) from District XI.
District eleven has some of the most storied programs... Easton has the 2nd highest total wins in the state, Bethlehem Liberty has won a state championship in AAAA and played in the finals twice, Allentown Central Catholic and Wilson have won Class AAA state championships, Parkland has won a AAAA championship.
District XI has kids playing right now at Connecticut, West Virginia, Pitt, Northwestern, Rutgers, Temple, North Carolina State, Boston College, Stanford, Missouri, Maryland,Michigan...and that's off the top if my head...I'm sure there's more.
The state player of the year in class AAA and AAAA have come from Bethlehem Liberty and Wilson the past two years.
And, AGAIN, my point is that despite that record....KC Keeler demonstrates little interest in this area.

I don't disagree with the assessment, FT - I never meant to insinuate that District 1 and 7, followed by 11 and 3, weren't the real hotbeds of football in PA - of course they are. And the sheer size of 1&7 just help them to outrank a district like 11. Heck, just looking at the state titles won and it's easy to see that - there's just more chances to win with so many more teams. District 11 has had just 2 AAAA state titles in the past 22 years - District 1 and 7 combined have had 17. District 3 is the real quiet one at times - you don't hear much about them where we live but they put out some real quality teams and some pretty decent talent.bluehenbillk wrote:Well said FT. I understand where GF is coming from, if you listen to BangorHen, put District XI in FL & it's the top talent in the state. But I agree with pretty much everything you wrote. Don't know if you include Berwick in the S/WB area but that program has been a college funnel by itself for a long time.Franks Tanks wrote:
Disagree-- some PA districts may produce one D-I recruit every few years.
District 1 (Suburban Philly) and District 7 or the WPIAL (Pittsburgh and the surrounding area) are by far the best recruiting areas. In fact these areas are some of the best recruiting areas on the county.. they are not quite on par with Broward County Florida or Suburban Dallas, but they produce very good players and a lot of D-I recruits.
District 11 (Lehigh Valley) is a quality recruiting ground. It produces around 5-10 FBS players per year, and a good amount of FCS and D-II talent. There are a lot of District 11 kids playing in the Big East at schools like Pitt and UCONN. District 3 (Harrisburg, York, Lancaster area) also has solid talent, and I would say its pretty much on par with District 11.
District 2 (Wilkes-Barre, Scranton area) produced a lot of talent in the old days, but is pretty medicore today. Same can be said for the Erie area-- historically lots of talent but hit and miss today. All other areas produce littles talent.

Re: Parade All America Linebacker Transfer
I hear ya Gannon Fan.
District 3 is a bit underrated and I also hear little about that area overall. Berks county has some good talent with schools like Wilson West Lawn, which has produced two current NFL QB's in Kerry Collins and Chad Henne.
Also it is a bit strange that the Hens dont recruit District XI more heavily. In the past they must have as I know a ton of guys in their 40's and 50's around the Lehigh Valley who played for Delaware. I work with a guy who is about 50 or so and he played for the Hens. His son is a very good player as well and plays for Richmond- I am not sure if he was offered by the Hens. When I was in High School in District XI the Delaware recruiters did come by. Brett Veach from Mount Carmel was the last coal region Hen recruit that I can think of, and that was years ago. Dave Shimski from Mount Carmel was originally committed to play QB for Delaware as well, but he opted for baseball. He came back to FB and started last year at BC as a 25 year old Freshman. Other than those two I dont know of any Lehigh Valley/Coal Region kids playing for Delaware.

Delaware has had three recruits in the last four years...one from Bethlehem Liberty , one from Bethlehem Freedom, and one from William Allen... one serviceable, one marginal, and one a disappointment...none viewed as a super talent in District XI while they were in high school.... some surprise among the coaching community that they landed in a top tier CAA program.
I believe the Richmond player you were describing was a QB from Parkland....first team All State ClassAAAA when Parkland won the state championship... no interest from UD despite the fact that his father played for the Hens. When this was brought up on GoHens...lots of discussion about Keeler depending on transfer QBs... the reaction was to question the kids academic potential (ended up at Richmond) as well as the quality of District XI football.
Glad to see Gannonfan modified his prior view and now includes District XI as one of the top three PA recruiting areas.
The most recent recruit of interest was a running back from Bethlehem Catholic... recruited by JMU heavily including a Mickey Matthews visit... verbally committed to Stony Brook because he wanted to stay closer to home... only then did UD come along with interest because JMU was interested...not knowing of his verbal to Stony Brook.
Recently, New Hampshire has developed a District XI foothold... ex-NH linebacker now coaching at Bethlehem Liberty and head coach has spoken at the yearly district football banquet honoring student athletes. One son of a Liberty assistant coach at New Hampshire right now.
It is also no secret that KC Keeler is not well received by Lehigh Valley coaches...not impressed by him pointing out that his 2003 championship ring is the only one with real diamonds and that he is the highest paid coach in all of FCS.

BlueHenBill-
Berwick was a state power in Class AAA when George Curry was coaching them... Ron Powlus and all. Curry was one of the few coaches who did just that...coach...was technically a guidance counselor...except it was revealed did not have certification. Berwick also allegedly perfected the "fifth year senior" scenario... quite a few retentions in eighth grade... seniors ended up being a year older and a year stronger than the typical high school senior.
Curry most recently at Wilkes Barre... not nearly the success in Class AAAA.
One other point not mentioned is that District XII (Philadelphia) has only been competing in the PIAA state championships for two years....their parochial schools have had the most success... some discussion has evolved about their "attendance areas" since they could theoretically represent a city all star team. Some outstanding athletes in this region obviously.

A lot of that has to do with population: 09' census estimate)bluehenbillk wrote:Agreed that Bangor is an ass, I just refer to him as a douchebag moving forward. There is nothing wrong with District XI football, it's a good football area but the # of schools that produce talent there is thin compared to the District 1's and 7's of the state. Still plenty of talent comes from there. PA is no FL or TX or CA, but it still is relatively high in producing talent.
#1 CA: 37 million
#2 TX: 24.8 million
#4 FL: 18.5 million
#6 PA: 12.6 million
When comparing Div I signees per state you have to look at it per capita. Sure, FL and TX are probably #1 and #2 per capita. I doubt CA is anywhere close to #3, which would probably be a state in the southeast or Ohio. I bet you PER CAPITA PA produces more Div I signees than CA.

Haven't changed a thing at all - my point was always that you always maintained the position that District 11 was by and far the most talent rich district in the state and I disagreed with this. I still do.NorthHen wrote:FT -

And again, you just can't stop yourself from posting hearsay stuff about KC with the whole "real diamonds" crack that you have probably said as often as you've criticized my screen name. It's like you have a checklist for making posts and you need to include every tired and worn out criticism as often as possible. How old is that "hearsay" on KC now - about 5-7 years? Not a wonder that you were one of the few who saw nothing wrong with posting alleged criticism of KC's tipping habits - you just can't help yourself.

Relevant to his "absence" from District XI.
Archives are gone forever but I actually suggested that the infamous "tipping thread" be taken down. I did agree, however, that CEO has a role in promoting the university by acting positively AND there was evidence to the contrary.
If you recall, the "ring story" was posted by a parent of an actual recruit... I also heard it directly from coaches.
But denial is certainly an option.
(Enough ...the "insider" trollmasters are snickering beneath their keyboards..."undeerwearJon" and "T-shirt Rob"...must be a cult...how cool!!!. THEIR postings are so cerebrally challenging. heh! heh! heh!)

I know about the ring story - heck, you've had to have mentioned it now at least 5 times under each screen name you've had so you're up to at least 20 references to it - at some point, you would think you could stop repeating yourself and move on - again, it was this kind of dogged devotion to all things KC may or may not have done poorly, even in topics that didn't relate to KC (plenty of lacrosse threads bemoaned KC and his tribulations) that led to the previous board going down.
As for KC's presence in District 11, I'd be worried about it if it was indicative of him not being able to recruit PA at all. However, the roster has more than enough decent players from the rest of PA, so it's not as if he's being shut out of the state's fertile recruiting grounds - he just doesn't seem to concentrate on one, relatively small (compared to 1 and 7) district - oh well. Heck, looking back at UD's 2000 roster, I think Tubby only had 3 kids from District 11 on that roster, and that team went to the semis. He did have a bunch of PA kids, just from elsewhere in the state (he was actually heavy into District 3). Ultimately though, and here I am repeating myself, you recruit the player, not the school.

By the way, the "tailgate anecdote" you refer to was a JOKE... a wife yelling out my screen name in the Gold Lot at Tubby Raymond just to see the GoHens adversaries scramble...the "inglorious bastards" in full tilt... might be fun to see...or, in YOUR case....not!!!
And...the "ring anecdote" was confirmed by a recruit's parent on the GoHens Board....sifted out of your recollection I assume. If KC Keeler does not recall the incident, I'd be happy to have the high school coach contact him to refresh his memory.... he wasn't impressed with Keeler then and could give a crap about him now... he has Paterno, Waanstadt, Golden, Schiano, and lots of others on speed dial.... none of them ever discussed their jewelry or salaries.

Claiming some type of "victory" for posting stupidity.
The automatic "douche" victory yell.
The innane, unrelated, undefined topic spilling out of an empty cranium.
Let's try this... (open to your "victory-mate Cluck" too)
Select a specific past topic or issue from the list you both apparently have catalogued in your head.
Only choose a topic or issue that would be of interest to this national audience (unlike your current rants)
Post the topic or issue in sufficient detail that it can be understood by posters on this Board.
I will add any context or additional information I recall from the original discussion.
We can debate the topic again.... although it's possible there never was any debate from you.
Start with "Carson Newman" since you've cited it twice already on the Board.
We'll find out if you conclude your debating by using the "ignore" button again... I recall it being referred to as running off and hiding under mommy's skirt. We'll also see if any posters on this site advise Cluck U that he is totally out of his league and unarmed in a battle of wits.
So... "keeper of the douche"...have at it. Select something of significance. You've had time for your temper tantrum...now engage your thought process. Show everyone you can move beyond "douche-dom".

The fact of the matter, for the "national audience" is debating the undebatable douchebag is not something I'd pursue nor would I advise anyone else to waste their time trying. Truly one of your masterpieces. In fact, you thought so highly of that demonstration of your "wit", that you repeated it about a dozen times under several screen names. Give us your insight, oh wise one.
These signatures have a 500 character limit?
What if I have more personalities than that?

Re: Parade All America Linebacker Transfer
Where's the Mottman guy? His anti-ASU rants back in 2007 and into 2008 had me in stitches.
Damn it, posted this in the wrong place. Thought I was in the GoHens thread.

Not sure this is of national significance but at least you selected an actual topic.
As I recall, it occurred during a dialogue between me and Gannonfan on another topic. I believed he was being arrogant and I used the "Gannonfan" reference as an example. My simple point was that posters are free to choose any "name". Since "Gannonfan" was, I believe, one of the "founding fathers" of "GoHens", I believed it was a bit arrogant to assume the title of "Gannonfan"....as if none of the other UD fans posting on the site were fans of Rich Gannon or that HE had some special status to designate himself as THE "Gannonfan".
I also believed it to be less than creative...all "names" in the universe were available.
I also believed it was selected to draw attention to him, "Gannonfan", as somehow somebody special.
At the time... as an illustration... it made sense to include it as a constant example of arrogance. Maybe it worked...maybe it didn't.
It certainly wasn't slanderous.
Suppose I could have just been frustrated and called him an "azz" or "douche".... lot less effort. Some posters on GoHens actually tried to use a thought process to make a point...others just yelled out a schoolyard epithet.
Not sure my example had any effect on resolving the dispute Gannonfan and I were engeged in...and likely pissed him off ... no permanent harm to his psyche I'm sure.
Doubt this has much interest to most members of this Board... as is true of most of this thread... except as an accident scene worthy of a gawk or two.
But YOU posted it.... Topic #1
