Biggest for poll respect/power rating, yes. For local name recognition, easily Yale followed by Maine (as in "what or where is Steven Falkin Austin?" Some might guess it's in Texas, but not 1 in 1,000 would know about Nacogdoches)danefan wrote:2nd week for us @ Stephen F. Austin.

FBS: @Nevada - If they come out flat and we play top notch, get a couple turnovers, we have a chance.
FCS: vs. SUU - They'll be a tough test, but we'll be gunning for a playoff spot again late in the season so I expect another comfortable win.

Re: Biggest non-conference game on your schedule
For the Spiders there are two, the first and less likely to be a vicotry is our (lately) semi annual battle up in Charlottesville at Scott Stadium with UVA.
Obviously this game takes on several different levels of meaning with the coaching changes (London to UVA, Scott to UR)
Then two weeks later UR opens the almost completed on campus Robins Stadium with a battle with Elon, whom the Spiders have defeated the two previous years, including last years playoff win.

Re: Biggest non-conference game on your schedule
I don't think we have a "make or break" OOC game this year. I chalk most of that up to us not really being in the hunt for the playoffs after changing coaches and offense again.
But if I had to choose....I would say that Coastal Carolina would be our biggest non-conference game. We're going to stomp an even more pathetic Sav. St. program and then turn around the next week and get a mud hole stomped into us by Navy. So by default it will have to be Coastal.

Weber is basically losing to both Texas tech and BC, so the non-conf game thats the season maker for Weber is....
UC DAVIS, Is a must win, 0-3 vs OOC would be horrible.

Well, technically, it was dropped by mutual agreement so SDSU was just as guilty of ending it as UD was. And odd, you were on record as dismissing SDSU as not a great game previously. Hmmm.NorthHen wrote:Agreed. South Dakota State by default ....shame the previously scheduled three-game series was abandoned by UD.

Re: Biggest non-conference game on your schedule
Yes, the SDSU is the obvious and only choice, but at least they are pretty decent. And yes, the schedule breaks great for UD - only 4 road games and with what Richmond and UMass lose from last year even those 2 road games should be emminently winnable. No reason not to make the playoffs this year and there'll be righteous indignation if the Hens don't.bluehenbillk wrote:SDSU? Not West Chester or Duquesne? This is why Hens fans are real optimistic about the playoffs this year, 7 home games, no UNH & our toughest OOC game is SDSU, not that they're a slouch.

Fortunately, not much may still be enough to win the West - in Whiz I trust.SpiritCymbal wrote:Warner, Q, and the Dansby...i'm not expecting much this yeardbackjon wrote:

Stony Brook will host UMass on 9/25. That should be a good test of how we have improved or not. Also curious to see how we do at South Florida on 9/4. Really want to see us put some points against the Bulls-it is our first ever FBS opponent. Our field goal game is pretty solid and maybe Gowins will break one for a TD. If we can nail up 10 or 13 points I would be very happy.

Iowa State. In state rivalry. We missed a FG to win on the last play of the game in '06, and then kicked their ass in '07.
They might actually be decent this year too, as they won a bowl game last year.

yeah but do you really expect to win it? There's a chance I guess, that's why they play the game.etiger1 wrote:Our Opener vs indiana on Thursday 2 Sept. Game is on Big Ten Network

Second biggest away game is Missouri. In my opinion, the biggest non-conference game in the grand scheme of things is Cal Poly. That is one we need to win.

It's a big game for ODU, having the #5 team in the FCS coming to Foreman. Not saying the Monarchs will win or lose but it will be a good indication of how much work ODU needs before joining the CAA next year. But hey, in order to be the best, you gotta play the best and for now its Tribe.

Joining the CAA is going to fast track ODU's football program growth. I've seen predictions by ODU posters of 5 years to be really competitive. I'm betting---sooner.futureodualum11 wrote:I agree...unfortunately.green&gold75 wrote:For real: Tarheels.
