Chasing History: Ubaldo Jimenez Watch

Post by free7694 »

Through 10 starts, Ubaldo Jimenez is 9-1 with a 0.88 ERA. He has allowed 42 hits in 71 innings, and 2 or less in 4 of 10 starts. He has allowed 2 runs in a start twice, one run in three start and shut the opponent out in the other 5. He is only the second pitcher in MLB history to win 9 of his first 10 starts with an ERA under 1. This could be one of the greatest seasons ever for a pitcher, and remember, he's pitching his home games at Coors Field.

Great start - I never worry about the ballparks, great pitchers pitch great no matter where they are. Pitchers who complain about ballparks aren't great pitchers anyway.

It's not likely but, barring injuries, he will get the starts to get there.

A starter gets about 34 starts a season, that means a guy has to have 4 or less ND or L, that aint going to happen.

Well, through 10 starts he has ZERO ND's, so he's on pace, technically. 8-) 8-) 8-)

Well, through 10 starts he has ZERO ND's, so he's on pace, technically. 8-) 8-) 8-)
but he does have a loss so he is on pace for 3.3 ND or L right now... and that trend wont hold up

Are you going to be on your period until either Boston wins or loses?

Travis - will it happen? Not likely. But the possibility still exists, realistic or not.

I'm with Travis on this one - there is no way he gets 30.

30 wins is highly unlikely, he has 22 or 23 starts left this season and would have to win 21 of them. But winning 16 out of 22 or 23 and getting to 25 wins with his stuff and stamina combined with the Rockies offense is doable.

You just gotta hope the Rockies line up doesn't come down with the "Phillies Syndrome," and stop providing run support when your Ace pitches.

What part of the word 'possibility' do you not understand, you whiny baby?

Z didn't ask if it was likely, he asked if it was a possibility. Clean the sand off of your tampon and pull it out of your vag when you're done with your period. Jeezus.

Interestingly enough, Jimenez and Halladay have received almost the exact same amount of run support this season. The Phils have scored 48 runs in Halladay's 10 starts and the Rockies have scored 49 in Jimenez' 10 starts. Not trying to make any real statement here, just thought it was funny how close it actually is.

Oh no doubt, I was actually reading an article earlier this year and the author was commenting on how he was surprised the Phils were giving Halladay run support when you compare it to what Hamels had to deal with the past few years. There were a couple of seasons there where Hamels should have been a 20 game winner had the Phils pushed a phreagin run across the plate. I recall one stat from 2008. Hamels started three games against the Natinals and only let up one run over three games. His record: 1 win, 1 loss, 1 ND.... :ohno:

In Jimenez' loss this year he gave up 1 run on 2 hits in 7 innings, but the Rockies got shut out. :( :x

Nice start but starts are easy. The rest of the season could be a different story.

1) He plays for a suspect team with suspect talent behind him.

2) 1t time through a series with teams is often easier if they haven't seen you before. The second time he faces some of these teams they might have a different approach toward him.

good points.

Better pitchers with better teams have failed to win 30 games.

In 1999 Pedro Martinez was 10-1 at the end of May and 15-3 at the break and ended up 23-4

Greg Maddux, one of the greatest pitchers ever never won more then 20 games.

Jiminez wont win 30 games, he won win 25 and it wont have anything with him not being a very very VERY good pitcher, its just INCREDIBLY HARD to accomplish, thats why no one has done it in over 40 years

Unless my Giants pull their collective heads out of their asses, Jimenez should go to 10-1 today. The Rockies are currently beating the Giants 4-0 in the top of the 9th; Jimenez has lowered his ERA to .79, and has 9K today.

And with ALL that being said, he's now 10-1 through 11 starts and it's STILL a possibility.

The Giants had nothing to do with that performance yesterday. That was the 6th time in 11 starts the other team has failed to score against Jimenez.
