It would seem the oil naturally rises to the top of the water so instead of stopping it, why can't they contain it with some sort of large plastic tubing to guide it to a floating platform where it can be off-loaded to tankers? The pressure from the surrounding water would keep the tubing from blowing up and the pressure from the oil would keep it from collapsing. I know it's a long way down, but if they can drill that far down, why can't they make a tube that long?

Why does that question remind me of Marilyn Chambers movies?

It would appear there is not a tube with the length or girth necessary to satisfy this insatiable hole.

A nuke would pose a pretty high risk of flooding New Orleans, right? Not to mention any other problems. But, it seems to me like it would send a massive wave right at New Orleans....

Don't build your city below sea level...seems like a pretty simple answer to me how to avoid flooding a lot of times.

Build your house in a place where it will/can get flooded without a major "act of god" and you deserve what you get.

Tornadoes are different though as they are completely unpredictable. Floods, however, can be predicted.

Why? He is absolutely correct. BP has a horrid safety and maintenance record, and cut costs at every corner, and ignored safety and maintenance standards.

Bullsh*t, this would have happened even if they had followed the letter of your guys intentions.

The fact is 3 different safety systems failed one after another and no amount of maintenance could have prevented that.

Hence why its called an accident.

Dickhead, he's right. You voted the corporatocracy in, twice, who then gutted all environmental laws and agencies that protect it. This is what happens when corporations are in charge.

You then voted for Sarah Palin. :ohno:
"Sarah Palin absolutely blew AWAY the audience tonight. If there was any doubt as to whether she was savvy enough, tough enough or smart enough to carry the mantle of Vice President, she put those fears to rest tonight. She took on Barack Obama DIRECTLY on every issue and exposed... She did it with warmth and humor, and came across as the every-person....it's becoming mroe and more clear that she was a genius pick for McCain."

Looks like they read your post 89:
"We have just cut the riser pipe off of the lower marine riser package," Allen told a news briefing.

This will allow the company to collect at least some of the leaking oil in a containment cap and bring it to the surface.
http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE65204220100603" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
* The containment cap is intended to capture about 80 percent of the oil and gas. The rest is expected to escape.

* The cap will be connected by pipe to a drillship at the water's surface a mile above the well.

* The captured oil and gas is expected to be channelled to the ship, where the oil will be stored to bring ashore later for processing and the gas will be flared.

But Alpha, there should have been a 4th, 5th, and 6th safety system just in-case the first 3 failed. Don't you see what dback is saying?????
