http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE6 ... liticsNews" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;Jim Messina, White House deputy chief of staff, talked about three jobs with former Colorado House Speaker Andrew Romanoff last year in an unsuccessful attempt to head off a primary challenge against incumbent Senator Michael Bennet, who Obama supports.
"Messina wanted to determine if it was possible to avoid a costly battle between two supporters," White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said in a statement, although he and Romanoff said no concrete job offers were made.
It is the second time in less than a week the White House has acknowledged using a possible job to try to head off Democratic primary battles, a pattern that has drawn heavy Republican criticism.
....
Romanoff, who earlier had applied for a position at the U.S. Agency for International Development, said Messina suggested three administration positions that might be available if he dropped his Senate race.
"He added that he could not guarantee my appointment to any of these positions. At no time was I promised a job, nor did I request Mr. Messina's assistance in obtaining one," Romanoff said in a statement.
Republicans said the intensive political wheeling and dealing by the Obama administration raised legal questions and cast doubt on his promises to practice a new kind of politics.
"It is clear that the Obama administration is not capable of living up to the same standards they campaigned on, and an independent investigation is necessary to learn all the facts," Republican Party chief Michael Steele said.
Republicans have charged the offer to Sestak, presented by former President Bill Clinton on the administration's behalf, violated federal laws prohibiting offering jobs to influence elections.

I'll admit, I was hopeful that Obama could live up to what he campaigned on (and still, it's not like McCain was presenting a decent enough alternative to vote for - again, a case of picking the least objectionable of the two candidates offered). Unfortunately, it appears more and more each day that there has been no real shift in politics - it's still just politics as usual. Oh well, it was worth a shot.89Hen wrote:the intensive political wheeling and dealing by the Obama administration raised legal questions and cast doubt on his promises to practice a new kind of politics. The only thing I can't believe is that so many people fell for it.

I think it was a shot worth taking. But I think deep down most of us with a brain knew nothing was going to CHANGE. Now it's time to throw them all out.GannonFan wrote:I'll admit, I was hopeful that Obama could live up to what he campaigned on (and still, it's not like McCain was presenting a decent enough alternative to vote for - again, a case of picking the least objectionable of the two candidates offered). Oh, then this wasn't the change he was talking about.dbackjon wrote:but, this is not an Obama invention....

What exactly was the change he was talking about??

No doubt this is common place over the history of the country, but BO specifically said he wasn't going to follow in those footsteps... He said he was going to change it.dbackjon wrote:No, this shouldn't happen, and very disapointed if it is.

And that is one reason I am dissapointed in this. As well as the Republicans calling for impeachment hearings on this.andy7171 wrote:No doubt this is common place over the history of the country, but BO specifically said he wasn't going to follow in those footsteps... Fuck you KY. If you'd take Howard Dean's cock out of your mouth for a half a second and pay attention, you'd see I'm not taking a side here. Your guts just so full of Donk jizz that you can't think straight. Different set of assholes, same old schtick brother. I was referring to current leadership. But, as I said, meet the new boss, same as the old boss. You can't realistically fit a dime between the difference.Skjellyfetti wrote:Short memory? Senility beginning to kick in? You weren't referring solely to the current leadership. Mainejeff's comment was about REPUBLICANS. And you defended them saying... As history has proven, the Contract With America served it's purpose and delivered on most of it's promises. What happened to that particular set of Republican politicians is the same that happens with any set of politicians who fall into the "Culture of DC". Which in my opinion, is a good argument for term limits. Well intending people of both parties who truly want to become advocates for their constituents seem to get sucked into the 'me first' culture of Washington DC. It happened to the people who came in with the "Republican Revolution", and it has happened now with the current lot.
