Hey, I've been an O's fan all my life, just like you. But until that fucktard Angelos dies or sells the team, the O's aren't going to be worth watching for a long, long time. Might as well embrace the Nat's as your second favorite team. Even before Strasburg, they have been 10 times more entertaining to watch this season. At least they are in the NL, so it's alot easier to split your allegiance up. And if the two ever meet in the World Series then you/we can root for the O's againandy7171 wrote:This makes me hate the Nat's even more.

I'll acknowledge first that you did give him his due.saint0917 wrote:I watched the first 4 innings and WOW, what a freak of nature (I mean that in a good way) his fastball had lots of movement, his curve was falling off the table, a real good performance. But, on the flip side, look who he played, the Pitates, one of the worst teams in MLB, the first few innings he fell behind on his pitch count alot 3-1, 3-0 etc..He wont beable to do that against better hitting teams like the Dodgers, Giants or Reds but we'll see.
That said, it's too bad that you didn't watch his last 3 innings. That's where he really started to dominate. He struck out the last 7 batters (8 of the last 9) and retired the last 10 batters in a row. He stopped throwing the balls early in the count and was ahead of the batters getting the early strikes. I attribute the early pitching from behind to nerves. He seemed to settle down nicely as he got more comfortable. Once again, 14Ks in 7 innings and only 94 pitches.
That said, he will have his off games but I don't see it soon as he is starting off against Pitt, Cleveland, ChiSox, then KC or Baltimore if I read the schedule correctly. First tough team should be at the end of the month against Atlanta in game 5. The Nats are bringing him up nicely to a favorable schedule AA - AAA - Minor League Lite

I've had this guy "wasting space" on the benches of my two fantasy league teams until last night. Hopefully he's not a fluke... I mean 14K's is impressive, but it was also against the Pirates. Who's he pitch against next? Cleveland? They're good.
Wait to see how he adjust once MLB players pick up on his pitching style.

BTW, he only went to 3 balls 3 times all night. He did fall behind three of his first four hitters, but settled down, getting ahead of 15 of his final 20. 31 of his last 38 pitches were strikes.saint0917 wrote:I watched the first 4 innings and WOW, what a freak of nature (I mean that in a good way) his fastball had lots of movement, his curve was falling off the table, a real good performance. How exactly does anyone, MLB or not, pick up on a 99 mph tailing/sinking heater? Frankly his off-days will come when he can't get his curve over or he leaves his change-up up (his only bad pitch last night)...JMU DJ wrote:I've had this guy "wasting space" on the benches of my two fantasy league teams until last night. So what? What have we really had to cheer for until recently? It's no secret that the Expos/Nat's have been a sham of an organization for quite some time. Now we've got a great park, some solid players (need more solid pitching) and some good prospects coming up. The club is finally starting to put together the pieces they need to be a solid team. Not this year, maybe not next year, but pretty soon. And now we're going to have all baseball eyes on us every fifth game for the next few months (he most liekly won't be pitching through the entire season). Nothing wrong with that. It's fun.JMU DJ wrote:bandl wrote:

He also had more AA and AAA outings. Give him a few starts, a lot of rookies come up real hot and then cool off. I don't think Strausberg will sink to the levels of a Jeff Francour (who is playing better this year) or a Jordan Schaffer who had an amazing first two weeks of the 2009 season and then did nothing for a month before being demoted.bandl wrote:His AA and AAA outings were 'worse' than his outing last nightJMU DJ wrote:I've had this guy "wasting space" on the benches of my two fantasy league teams until last night. I said 14K's was impressive, I just don't expect him to throw 14 for every start, especially when he faces teams who aren't in dead last in the MLB for BA, RBI and second to last in hits

I know Tabitha, I speak more to the wishy washy fan base that is DC. The only thing most of you care about is the Redskins... now you got a bunch of people who used to tell me how "gay" hockey was talking about how big of a Caps fan they are. Or people saying how boring baseball is changing their tune. It's cool, it's better for the teams to get more fans out there, it's cool that some narrow minded football fans can actually talk about something besides how Joe Gibbs is going to take them back to the promised land... I'm just gonna call you out before I get into that discussion about how the Natinals look better than they have in years past. You'd hope it'd be more than a every 5 games thing that the fans would show up, considering the Nats are actually still in it this year.bandl wrote:So what? Re: Strausberg........
No one expects him to have 14 ks every start and to win every game. And no one expected him to pitch a fraction as well as he did last night. Plenty of people were expecting (hoping?) that he would bomb last night, which would have been about the norm considering the shit show he walked into. He's not going to go 500-0 with 8,000ks in his career. But we did get to see what he is capable of on a one-night basis, so it's going to be fun to see what he can do from here on out.JMU DJ wrote:He also had more AA and AAA outings. Not Hatin' Z, just not drinkin' the Kool-aid. He should be a great MLB pitcher and he's lived up to the hype through 1 MLB game. He's got more hype than any player I can recall, besides this other kid the Nats just drafted #1, so I don't think there's anyone you can really compare him too when it comes to hype and expectations. However, if you want to, you'd hope he doesn't burn out throwing that fast hard stuff like Dontrelle Willis.AZGrizFan wrote:don't be a hater, DJ. I'm just not ready to christen him like the rest of you chumps. Give him a few starts and then I won't be a douchey McDoucherson... unless it's an "I told you so." But chances of the "I told you so" moment happening are slim to none.

I haven't been this excited about DC sports since the Skins drafted Shuler!
Re: Strausberg........
Burn out? The thing is, he didn't even look tired - his delivery was fluid and pretty effortless - as long as they keep him on a pitch count and don't go deep in the playoffs I don't think burn-out will be an issue...
