Re: How would you prove it?
If I'm in Arizona, I would probably have my passport with just in case I take a day-trip to Mexico. Living near an international border now a days, requires a passport to get back into the country. I'm going through a background check right now for a job, and a passport or birth certificate is required.

What part of that is so difficult to understand?

Don't worry, no need to respond. 89Hen clarified this for me.

Seriously? I thought that was Obama's whole POINT!!!OSBF wrote:that's exactly the problem.mrklean wrote:That's the problem, How can anyone prove that they are a a U.S. Citizen.
do we really want to become like the rest of the world where you have to carry a passport or some other form of federal issued govt ID card that must be presented on demand by any authority?
I dunno, that might be the answer in the long term.

Oh, you meant a Valid Drivers license.
You mean the valid driver's licenses that illegal immigrants are able to obtain in certain states. Perhaps you missed that one earlier.
One's like this (yes, I'm aware laws in Florida and for Visas have changed since this instance):

One's that immigrants (legal and illegal) will be able to obtain right next door in New Mexico?
Driver's licenses are another document that can prove citizenship. But Gibson said companies with workers who travel back and forth from New Mexico - truck drivers, for example - are concerned. New Mexico does not require proof of citizenship to get a regular driver's license, and a New Mexico license would not be recognized as legal proof in Arizona.

How do you determine immigration status if they have one of these valid drivers licenses? 89hen answered, not you. You conveniently left that out of the quote in your reply.
Gov. Brewer dodged this question earlier this week when asked if a Valid Driver's License was sufficient. She's also unsure of how an illegal will be identified.
What do the legal citizens from New Mexico do if their Valid Driver's license won't be recognized? I'm not from New Mexico, but I'm not carrying my validated birth certificate, social security card and passport every where I go like some of you schmucks.
How do you know the licenses obtained by those OBSF speaks about aren't "valid?" We can assume they are valid, but then I would expect you to assume that there aren't any illegals obtaining falsified documents to obtain those valid licenses.

If they hold a license, but aren't in the computer system, then the license isn't valid simply because it LOOKS like it's valid.

I didn't read the whole thread, so if this was already discussed, my apologies. Anyway, the State of Delaware, as one of the smaller states, is one of the early adopters of implementing the REAL ID Act of 2005. If I want to fly, take a train, or enter any federal facility in the US (and this applies to all US citizens by 2017, those born after 1964 by 2014), I will have to present a federally compliant driver license. To get one, I will have to "revalidate" my identity with DMV by bringing in my original birth certificate, social security card, and two other forms of identification.

Re: How would you prove it?
Der! I know this Z. Did you miss the part about people being able to obtain valid driver's licenses from various states DMV's (you get it from the DMV, it's in the computer system) without having to have a SSN? Or the part about using falsified records to obtain a valid license from the DMV? I'm not talking about getting a fake license here Z, it's pretty easy to get a legit one that's in the computer system, right next door in New Mexico as a matter of fact.AZGrizFan wrote:If they hold a license, but aren't in the computer system, then the license isn't valid simply because it LOOKS like it's valid.
