ICE Provides Benefits to Illegal Alien Detainees

ICE and the private prison company Corrections Corporation of America have agreed to make more than 24 changes at nine facilities. The changes include:

• Relaxing security: Low-risk detainees will have “freedom of movement” in the facilities and will no longer be subject to lock downs or lights out.

• Access: Detainees will be able to have visitors stay as long as they like within a 12-hour window. The facilities will increase attorney visitation space, add un-monitored phone lines and give detainees email and free, Internet-based calling. A unit manager will be available to take complaints directly from detainees.

• Daily life: Detainees will be allowed to wear regular clothing, will have at least four hours of recreation daily, and will be offered cooking, art and dance classes.

Stupid.

Why try to make jail into a Holiday Inn? I agree with food, water, a toilet, a bed, and because I'm such a nice guy, climate control and an hour to exercise for inmates. They do not deserve nor need anything more than that.

The relaxing of security is a death wish for the prison guards.

That's why I say give them basic necessities. When they get back to where they belong, they won't brag to other potential illegals about how nice the holding tank is when you get caught trying to weasel into our country. We don't need to encourage people to try to make it here illegally.

I agree with this in most cases. But, some of these people are in legal limbo... they may be US citizens or people here legally. Some are in cartels and deserve to be in prison-type settng. Some are children with no parents... and could be stuck in limbo for years. Look up Division of Unaccompanied Children Services for some truly heartbreaking stories.

These benefits in nativist's article are for "low risk detainees"... not for everyone. That's obviously vague... and I wouldn't mind hearing how that status is determined. But, I think most would fall toward the unaccompanied minor side of the spectrum and not the cartel side.

Sorry to sound so callous, Skjelly, but I've seen enough children of Americans orphaned with no financial support after their parents were wiped out by a drunken, uninsured illegal to really give a fuck about the kids of illegal aliens.

When there's doubt, tie does not go to the illegal alien in any case in my book. Err on the side of caution and get them the hell out of our country as fast as possible. They want what we have without playing by our rules. Fuck 'em.
