ESPN Boise St. to the Mountain West
finally. WAC is on the clock. Montana, Texas St., Sacramento St. and anyone else west of the Miss. from the FCS are in play

Re: ESPN Boise St. to the Mountain West
If Montana takes their place, they better still come to Boone in 2012.

Boise State has given the Mountain West Conference a 10th program.
Boise State is leaving the Western Athletic Conference, a league the Broncos have dominated for a decade in football, the MWC confirmed with a statement Friday.
"We are pleased and excited to welcome Boise State University to the Mountain West Conference," commissioner Craig Thompson said in the news release. "Since our inception just 11 short years ago, the Mountain West has experienced tremendous success, and the addition of Boise State will further enhance that strength. The MWC continues to strategize regarding potential membership scenarios and bringing Boise State into the Conference is an important part of that evolution."

Any idea when the WAC might make an announcement? I thought I read somewhere that the WAC Presidents have their annual meeting this week. I'm not sure if it was an old article though...Fresno St. Alum wrote:finally. WAC is on the clock. Montana, Texas St., Sacramento St. and anyone else west of the Miss. from the FCS are in play

Pretty much puts the final nail in the coffin for a once proud WAC - prior to the MWC splitting off they were pretty decent. But now that the last legit program is leaving, it pretty much cements the WAC was the western version of the Sunbelt or the MAC, and with the move to super BCS conferences all of those conferences are even further minimized. Not sure the point of even joining the WAC at this time would be.

Last legit? Fresno St. and Nevada are legit. Hawaii was until June Jones leftGannonFan wrote:Pretty much puts the final nail in the coffin for a once proud WAC - prior to the MWC splitting off they were pretty decent. Well, Fresno's probably leaving too. Hawaii is one of the few teams Notre Dame could beat in a bowl game, so that reduced their legitamacy right there, and Nevada isn't making waves. There's a reason why Boise could go undefeated year after year and still not get respect nationally - the conference schedule did them no favors.Fresno St. Alum wrote:Last legit? Re: ESPN Boise St. to the Mountain West
I think it could mean a couple of things: 1) the MWC is going to try to go to 16 teams (adding Kansas, Kansas St., Baylor, Iowa St. and maybe Missouri; or 2) they were rejected and may stop or ten or max out at 12. This is really getting interesting, but after comments by the MWC with holding off on Boise, it does seem that perhaps the "mega-conference" idea could be on hold across the board. It's crazy, I can't stop reading all of the rumors.dbackjon wrote:So, does that mean Kansas, et al rejected the MWC?
Appalachian State Mountaineers:
National Champions: 2005, 2006, and 2007
Southern Conference Champions: 1986, 1987, 1991, 1995, 1999, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2012
NO DOUBT ABOUT IT! WE'RE GONNA SHOUT IT! NOTHING'S HOTTER THAN A-S-U!

would love to see the MWC add Kansas, Kansas St. Iowa St. and Baylor/Missouri to get to 14.

This would be excellent news, but nothing is backing that up right nowGannonFan wrote:Well, Fresno's probably leaving too. Re: ESPN Boise St. to the Mountain West
interesting how the ESPN article says 5-6 FCS teams, but doesn't name them. Are the 6 serious west coast teams that could move?
