Certain 'hoods are absolutely terrible, but overall Philly is doing pretty good. Areas like Northern Liberties and Fishtown are full of young professionals moving back to the City. It will be a slow process, but many areas of Philly ares being taken back and are desirable places to live.

I looked it up and it said that Philly has the 4th highest economic inpact of any american city ..only behind NYC, LA, and Chicago. I would be interested in learning what kind of jobs you couldnt fill. Plent of qualified white collar workers all over the Philly area.

It's the blue collar jobs that can't be filled properly enough and besides the excessive taxation inside the city (as well as the often provincial oversight agencies) it's that reason that many blue collar jobs have left the city. There's little to no manufacturing done within the city limits anymore, and the main reasons are tax advantages outside of the city and a much better chance to hire quality people outside the city. Like I said, I worked in a chemical plant in NE Philly for 4 years and just trying to find someone who could pass a simple math questionairre (sp?) prior to being hired as a chemical operator was incredibly tough. On the job training isn't normally supposed to include simple arithmetic. That's where the city is really screwed, like most cities are. Sure the professional jobs are great and well paid and it's those jobs that help push things like revitalization of some small areas (Northern Liberties for example), but the outlying neighborhoods still within the city limits aren't doing well.

Well Blue Collar is different, and that is why I would be interested in learning more about the situation. You must admit that Philly is exibiting some positive signs as far as a few hip areas rising from the ashes of complete junk. Many, Many areas of Philly are terrible, but there are a few bright spots that can lead to positive steps.

Well Blue Collar is different, and that is why I would be interested in learning more about the situation. Oh, I think parts of the city are far better than they probably have ever been - I don't disagree with that. But there's a clear underbelly of the population that is really just stuck where they are right now with little hope of betterment at this point. Again, it's more of a national issue because every other city in America has the same problems, but yes, when you can't fill the most menial of positions it is startling.

Philadelphia is not a **** hole. It is a historic city with lots of great things to do and lots of areas that are being revitalized by young people.

The fact is however that Philadelphia has many of the same problems as other NE cities like D.C, Baltimore and NYC. Also their is a significant poor black population within the city of Philadelphia. In overwhelming numbers young black men drop out of high school, go to jail, and are in worse shape than their peers of other races. It is terrible to say but demographically it is true.

Also the weight thing in crazy. I believe someone who is 6'2" can weigh no more than 189. That is really skinny. Plenty of people are 6'2" and well over that weight and in tremendous shape in every way. Weight should not be a requirement provided that a person can perform the exercises.

Philly is still a shi*thole. One of the highest murder rates, violent crime rates, poverty rates, school drop out rates, taxes, of any major city in the country. The city is beholden to the unions, their pension fund is woefully underfunded, parking is abysmal. The city has had a # of corrupt politicians now sitting in federal prisons. I live less than 3 miles from the Philly city limits. Philly is a shi*hole...

I do not have neck tattoos or face tattoos or hand tattoos, but I do have tattoos that are easily visible. When I went to a recruiter for OCS that was the first thing they cited to me.

I think officers are held to a higher standard...might not have been a problem if you were enlisting.

Seems so, which is disappointing because it has not hampered me at all working a professional environment.
