Question for Youngstown and Grambling Fans

Post by UnhWildcats05 »

Trying to plan our trip to Pittsburgh in September. Did any of you guys attend when your team played PITT? What is the scoop on tailgating? I have heard it is difficult to get a parking pass to tailgate right at Heinz field and even if you do, it is nothing that special. We are considering taking the ferry to the game from station square. Any thoughts? Also, any additional tips you may have would be great.

Thanks in advance.

Never been to a Pitt game, but I've been to Pittsburgh quite a bit for some Pirates/Steelers games. No need to worry about a parking pass, as you can drink at any of the plethora of bars just across the river, then just walk across the bridge (they close the bridge to motorists for Steelers/Pirates, not sure about Pitt). There are even a good number of bars on that side of the river that you can go to, although they are a little more expensive and touristy (if that is such a thing in Pittsburgh). It's quite a fun city to go to for sporting events IMO.

I've been to Pitt games and their isnt a great tailgaiting scene. The stadium is away from campus (obviously) and despite Pittsburgh being a great sports and football town, the Pitt Panthers games are kinda boring from an atmosphere standpoint.

As Bandl said their are some great spots near the stadium. You may also want to check out the South Side (only about 10-15 minutes from the stadium) as they have some really cool bars. Fatheads is my favorite!

We didn't tailgate when we went down last year. As a matter of fact, they had a big rib festival right outside of Heinz Field with music and entertainment, with tailgates in the outside lots.

My wife (girlfriend at the time) lived in South Side. We had a great time there whenever I went to visit her, which was every other week or so. And the bus system in P'burgh is pretty nice and efficient, iffin you happen to get too blasted to drive. :thumb:
UNHW05, I'll ask my wife if she remembers any of the bars/restaurants we used to go to. It's been a while for me and I just don't remember the names.
